why tongues?

The gift of tongues is very misunderstood, even in the church at large. Most churches are totally ignorant when it comes to speaking in other tongues. Many say it passed away with the last apostle and some say speaking in tongues is of the devil. How do you suppose Christians began to teach that tongues were of the devil? This is a doctrine of devils. The devil hates the Holy Ghost and His nine gifts. The devil has done a good job in discrediting the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:2 He that speaks (prays) in an unknown tongue speaks not to men but unto God.
The devil listens to everything we say, but he does not understand tongues and he hates that. The devil is paranoid, he hates it when God and His children make plans that he cannot thwart because he does not understand what they are saying. The devil has succeeded in convincing a lot of churches that tongues are to be avoided at all costs. If a church or a child of God wants the Holy Spirit, there is nothing the devil can do to hinder the request. Selah.
Jude 1:20 Beloved, build up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (tongues).
When you pray in tongues you build yourself up. How does this happen? The Bible tells us to take the Word of God praying. So when you pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit is giving us the Word of God to pray over ourselves. Early on in my ministry I had to officiate at several difficult funerals and I was very nervous and scared. The Lord led me to pray in other tongues. He was helping me to overcome my fears and strengthen me to honor the home going celebration of one of His children. When I was weak, He made me strong. I have done this time and again throughout my life.
1 Corinthians 2:10 God has revealed His mysteries unto us by His Holy Spirit.
I learned early on that if I prayed in tongues, God would speak to me the revelation He wanted me to share with His people. People ask me quite often, do you know what you're saying when you pray in tongues? Most of the time you will not, you must pray in tongues by faith. You must believe you are praying God's Word. The Bible says to pray that you might interpret, sometimes I know what I am praying about. I will go out early in the week and pray in tongues and then later I am given a message for the church. An intercessor is one who prays for other people. What do you pray over them when you pray in tongues? When you pray in the Spirit you build up yourself. When you pray for others in the Spirit you build them up.
Romans 8:26 The Holy Spirit helps with our weaknesses, we don't know what we should pray for, but the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us when we pray.
If you feel like you are inadequate to serve your Lord and Savior, then spend some time praying in other tongues! The Lord knows you better than you know yourself. You don't always know what you need, but He does. The people I know that spend time praying in other tongues are always very confident, God built them up because they put their faith in His gifts. Some folks will never have faith for the Holy Ghost because they require tangible evidence of His presence and His gifts. When you were born-again the Lord gave you a gift, He gave you His Holy Spirit to dwell in you until you meet your Father in Heaven. What kind of man would refuse such a miraculous gift from the one who died for them? Use the gift God gave you!
