The Bible makes many references to our works, by definition our works are acts, labors and deeds. There can be good works, bad works and fruitless works.
Ephesians 2:89 We are saved by grace through faith. Not of works lest any man should boast.
The Jews and others believed they would be saved if they did good acts and deeds. Then they could brag about how good they were, giving themselves credit and glory for their salvation. These would be fruitless works because their motive was misapplied. Works are important and necessary for salvation but only after one is saved by grace!
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone(by itself).
We are saved by grace through faith, but if we don't allow this grace to change us into a new man our faith is useless and unprofitable. Saying the sinners prayer is not enough for salvation if we continue to act like the old sinner that we were. People who truly want to be saved will display good works, acts and deeds after they've prayed the sinners prayer. It is not our place to judge the salvation of anyone but ourselves, for if we judge ourselves we should not be judged by the world. A person should not be taught how they are to act, it should come out of their born-again spirit. As a Catholic I was taught how to behave in order to please the church, but I broke all the rules because it was their laws not mine.
Hebrews 10:16 I will put My laws in their hearts, and in their minds will I write them.
When we are reborn, God puts His ways into our hearts and minds. If we act on them we are doing the works that will confirm our faith. The Apostle Paul said that God gave him the grace he needed to do good works and His grace was not in vain. God gives us grace at the new birth but we choose whether to accept it or not. Grace is readily offered but it can be refused and you'll never know what you missed out on!
Titus 1:16 They confess they know God: but in works(acts, deeds) they deny(reject) Him, being abominable(detestable) and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Our confession means nothing if it isn't backed by proof from our lifestyle. Some politicians will refer to the Bible and associate with progressive pastors when they campaign for election. If you watch how they act in office, you will know if they are legitimate or not. They will pander to the Christians and then vote for abortion and same-sex marriage. The Bible calls them reprobates. In the Greek language a reprobate is a mind that is mentally modified, it cannot discern between good and evil. A reprobate will acknowledge God but only for personal advantage, a Christian will acknowledge God because they want Him to have all the glory. As a young Catholic boy I acted like I was honoring God but in reality my heart was far from Him. I was taught to believe that God didn't like me unless I obeyed church doctrine. The Jesus I serve took my place on the cross because He loved me. I not only confess Him but He knows I love Him because I live to please Him. I am not saved by works, I am saved by grace and this new creature lives and acts like some one who is eternally grateful to be saved.
