veterans

Veterans are a unique group of people, they seem to be emerged in secrecy.  They were joined to a branch of the armed forces but they are reluctant to talk about their activities.  Well, some things are best left alone.  If certain memories are revisited they may have to be honored and this can easily be done without knowledge of what they did to earn such honor.  Veterans need to know that their time in service is appreciated, that’s all they need. Some vets don’t want any recognition, they buried all the bad experiences long ago and they don’t want them dug up.

When the vets of Vietnam came home they were not treated like the heroes they were, people spit on them in the airports.  The kids they went to school with rejected them and labeled them as baby killers.  Vietnam vets hid their uniforms deep in their closets and just tried to blend in.  When the Iraqi and Afghanistan soldiers came home they were honored by America.  The Vietnam vets wept with joy to see their brothers get the honor they deserved.

Psalm 18:32-34 It is God that girds me with strength.  He makes my feet like a deer, and sets me upon high places.  He teaches my hands to war so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms.

Men hate war and God hates war but most times we have no choice.  We had to help Europe in World War I and we had to war with Japan in World War II.  God was on our side, He raised up an intercessor by the name of Reese Howell and he prayed defeat on our enemies.  Every war has one bad guy, the general of chaos and his name is devil.  The devil loves to pit man against man and for no good reason, he is bloodshed’s greatest fan.

1 Corinthians 2:8 None of the devils of this world knew, for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The devils believed that if they could kill the Son of God, they would control the world forever.  But they miscalculated, Jesus had never sinned and so His Father sent the Holy Spirit into hell to raise Him up.  Now God has raised up an army and gave them a weapon the devil has no defense against.  He gave us the Name of Jesus.  The devil has no armor and he must fight upon his knees.  It is not a fair fight, there is nothing fair about it, thank God.  As veterans we can freely talk about the battles we had with the devil because they are all victories.

All veterans must be honored on account of their sacrifice.  There are places in the world that are free of oppression and armies who want what they don’t deserve.  When a nation honors its’ veterans it creates unity.  When a man or woman goes off to war they leave their family behind.  The families of vets are to be commended for their unwavering support.  You don’t know what it means to a soldier out in the field to get a letter from home.  When you get a letter from home it dispels loneliness.  It need not be well written, it feels good to know you’re not forgotten.
