the spirit of fear

Everyone is afraid of something, at some point early on in our life someone opened a door and let fear into our lives.  Most people just learn to live with a fear that many people have overcome.  Is it all right to let fear have its place in our life?

Romans 8:15 You have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba, Father.

Fear of any kind at any level will put you in bondage. You will be controlled by the fear you have yielded to.  Yes brother Jerry, but there are a lot of other things I can do.  But are we not supposed to be able to do all things through Christ that strengthens us.  Making excuses for our fears is the same as accepting them!  When we are born-again, we are translated into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son.  This is when we are made free.  The devil preys on everyone but he can only afflict the ignorant, the redeemed are free because they say so.

Revelation 21:8 The fearful, all liars and the rest of the sinners will have their part in the lake of fire.

According to the book of revelation, being full of fear can have eternal consequences, so maybe we should be more serious about dealing with it.  The word fearful in this text is referring to people who are faithless.  They do not believe God, so consequently they could not deal with the demon of fear.

Faith created the devil, faith will control him.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Jesus destroyed him that had the power of death, the devil.  To deliver them who through fear of death were subject to bondage.

All fear is based on our fear of death, but Jesus said whoever believes in Him will never die!  It is very clear that the root of fear is a lack of faith, we know God’s Word/Will but do we trust it?  One morning during hunting season I began to walk up a trail in the mountains two hours before sunrise.  As I began to walk the devil spoke into my mind, he clearly said I would be mauled by a bear before the sun came up.  As I continued up the trail I spoke out loud to the devil and I said this: Praise the Lord a bear is going to send me to Heaven this morning.  I never heard from the devil again, he knew it would not work on me.  At sunrise I shot a nice bull elk, just like I believed God I would.

All fear can be traced to the fear of dying, so we must get our faith established on our promise of eternal life. We are all going to die some day, it’s how we get our glorified bodies.  But we must use our faith to remain healthy and alive because we have a course we must finish.  If the devil can get us to accept his fear, he can hasten our demise.

Psalm 78:41 Israel turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

God was leading His people to a life better than they ever dreamed of, but they got into fear and limited what God was trying to do for them.

Fear puts limits on God.

Fear will limit where we can go and what God says we can do.  Faith comes from hearing and hearing the Word of God.  Fear comes from hearing and hearing the word of the devil.  Please let me remind you, we are not obligated to listen to the devil.  We can cast down every thing he says that is contrary to God’s Word for our lives.
