We rarely hear of a minister referred to as a man of God. The first five books of the Bible are called the Torah, they were written by Moses. From Adam to Moses there was over a twenty-five hundred year span of time. During that entire period, Moses was the only man God called a man of God. Later in time some others were called a man of God, Elisha and other prophets were given the title.
1 Timothy 6:11 But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
A true man of God will shun the very appearance of evil, he will pursue all the attributes that Jesus displayed in His life. A man of God is readily recognized by his lifestyle and the gifts God puts within him. Only God can give a man the title of man of God. The prophets and believers who have a discerning heart will have this revealed to them. Not every “man of God” is a man of God, people really enjoy giving themselves titles. If you are a woman and you dress like a woman and act like a woman, you won’t need to tell people you’re a woman.
Mathew 7:20 Therefore by their fruits you shall know them.
Politicians love to impress you with their titles, but they seem to forget they were voted in to serve their constituents. The man of God bears the title, which means he is determined to serve the one who called him. A man can call himself whatever he wants but his lifestyle will prove who he really is. The man of God doesn’t have time to tell you who he is, he is too busy doing what he is called to do. The man of God would much rather tell you who Jesus is.
Hebrews 6:12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to be like those who believe and are patient,
and so receive what God has promised.
If we will follow(emulate) those who are in possession of God’s promises, we too will have the promises of God. These folks are men of God, they know Him well because they walk with Him. The men and women I follow do not call themselves a man of God, I follow them because they are men of God. Whether we recognize it or not, the people we have close contact with influence out lives. As children of God we now can choose who we will allow to speak into our lives. When I was growing up I was a weirdo because all of my friends were weirdos. They were very disappointed when I departed and began to follow the men of God. My weirdo friends began to call my new mentors weirdos, I didn’t think it was funny then, but I do now.
A man of God is an ambassador of Christ, they represent Him and speak in His place. These folks deserve honor and acceptance, some are persecuted by fellow believers on account of jealousy.
He that receives you receives Me, and he that receives Me, receives the One who sent Me.
