The Lord's Prayer

Just before Jesus was arrested He prayed a special prayer, just for His disciples. His prayer really emphasized two major points that we should give heed. He prayed to His Father and asked Him to protect His disciples from the evil one. He asked His Father to reveal the truth to the men, because the truth would keep them separate from the evil. The second thing He prayed for was that all His followers would become one, that there be no division among His people.

John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word.

If you’re in Christ be assured Jesus prayed specifically for you, before you ever met Him. The manner in which Jesus constructed His prayer made it perpetual, it has never expired. There are scores of people who currently have no time for God, but the minute they accept Jesus, His prayer covers them. So what is God all about? He is endeavoring to protect us from the devil and make us all one. God cannot protect folks who don’t want to be protected, He can’t unify people who don’t want to be unified.

Hebrews 7:25 Jesus is able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus stands before His Father always making intercession for those who don’t know Him. If it weren’t for Jesus perhaps these people would have been judged long ago. I believe Jesus interceded for those of His disciples who will not listen to Him. The Bible refers to such people as hearers of the Word but not doers. He prays for them because they have built their spiritual home on sand and not on His Word. When people face hardships they seem to always find someone to blame or offer a valid excuse. They never consider themselves to be the problem.

Deut. 30:19 I call Heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your children may live.

What most Christians don’t understand is we must make a choice before God gets involved. They lounge around waiting on God, while He’s waiting for them. What should we choose? Everything He prayed we could have!  Jesus prayed the Father would protect, us. He can’t protect us if we won’t  listen to Him. He prayed we would all become one, but we put our doctrinal differences between us. If we don’t believe the same thing then someone is in error and it’s not the folks who believe the word.

Jesus never said we would come in the unity of the doctrine, He said we would come into the unity of the faith. Because of the Lord’s prayer, we have the power to accomplish His will. It is vitally important that we take the Word of God praying, because those prayers are the only ones that God will anoint. God gave us the way and the truth, why do we think we have a better way? We don’t! What we have is religion, man’s interpretation of how God should do things. Let’s forsake our ways and embrace the Lord’s prayer.
