The Little Man

Before our new birth we can do no wrong, we have a valid excuse for everything.  Sinners can justify anything, if you want to see this on display just listen to the politicians.  Before God gave the law to Moses, Israel did not know right from wrong, they had no conviction of any sin.  The law was imputed to give Israel a sin conscience, God wanted them to be aware of all the wrong things they were doing.  Your conscience is the voice of your spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:21 God has made Jesus to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

The law began with Moses and ended when it could not pass through the cross of Christ.  The law hit the cross and came out the other side totally revamped and unrecognizable.  We now have a new and lasting program and it’s called grace.  We are now saved by the grace of God, this is something the law could never do.  Being changed by the grace of God we are delivered from a sin conscience, now we have a righteous conscience.  Instead of walking around thinking about how bad we have been, we lay around thinking how good our God is.

Hebrews 9:14 The blood of Christ, through the eternal Spirit, offered Himself without fault to God, purge your   conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

We are no longer burdened with the task of skirting around our old sinful nature in an attempt to appease God.  Under the law there was no way to become worthy of God, but grace qualifies us.  God makes us worthy to be in His presence without guilt or shame.  Inside every man there is a “little man”, this little man is your conscience.  The little man will be influenced by God or the devil; the devil sneaks in, the Lord waits to be invited.  The devil encourages us to fulfil the lusts of our flesh, the Lord empowers us to accomplish His good pleasure.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 Many will give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.  They will speak lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron.

We can become so determined to go our own way that we will not even hear our “little man” trying to help us.  If your conscience is seared, you will become a reprobate, a person who is void of judgement.  A reprobate can be saved but they are certainly headed in the wrong direction.  Most sinners camp out in their sin but a reprobate protects itself from the salvation of the Messiah.

James 4:7 Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

The devil does not leave you to make your own decisions, he constantly badgers you to do his bidding.  He must be dealt with, he does not come and go on his own.  The devil must be told to go and the Lord needs to be asked to come.  I refuse to let the devil make decisions concerning my life and, on the other hand, I invite Jesus to have a voice.  Make Jesus Lord of your life and your little man will tell you good things.
