the intercessor

An intercessor is a very special person, they are a selfless person first and foremost.  An intercessor will pray for people who don’t deserve it and they pray for the very people that hate them.  They are motivated solely by the Holy Spirit and most times they never see their prayers answered.

John 9:31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners.

A true sinner does not pray, they do not know how or what to pray.  God will honor their desires on account of their ignorance, that’s what He did for me.  Ever since I was a young boy I wanted to go to heaven but I didn’t know the way, because I was full of “religion”.  Based on my yearning for salvation the Holy Spirit began to lead me to people who were in possession of the truth.  After my conversion to the Christian faith I began to meet people who were interceding for me.  Every sinner who comes to Christ should be an intercessor.

Luke 14:26 If any man come to Me, and hate not his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters and yes his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

We need to understand what Jesus is saying here. In order to commit and submit to the life Jesus died to give us, we must love Him more than our own family.  The word hate means to love less.  Not everyone will agree with what the Lord gives us to do, some of our greatest opposition will come from our family members.  The Lord will save a member of a family and then designate that person to intercede for the rest of the family.  Being at odds with your family is not a qualifying reason not to pray for them.  The heathen family members are watching the saved one, they just want to be certain that the “crazy Christian” is for real.

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made to all men.

The core group of intercessors should be growing with every new conversion.  Every born-again believer is called to intercede for a sinner or sinners.  When a believer intercedes they open the door of the sinner, for the Holy Ghost to enter in and begin to woo them with the love of God.  From the very beginning God gave dominion to man, and this dominion brings responsibility.  Jesus had to return to the Father because He reclaimed His deity, He forfeited His dominion when He was no longer a mere man.

1 Timothy 2:4 Jesus will have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth.

The role of an intercessor is for all men to be saved, they are called and anointed for this purpose.  God needs our prayers because we have the dominion, this is a partnership between the Head and His body.  Some will plant, some will water but it will be God that makes the whole process work.  We have a choice, we can complain and criticize the antics of our kin folk or we can intercede.  If we leave the decision up to our Lord, He will call for prayer.  Amen.
