When a person has an ongoing problem the conventional wisdom is to blame the people around them. As long as these folks continue in this view, they will never get free. This spirit has become a stronghold of the world. The world offers excuses to whosoever wants to have a “victim mentality”. Christianity is a stumbling block to them because the basis of Christianity is to take responsibility for your life. God cannot help us until we do because He gives grace only to the humble.
2 Timothy 2:25
In meekness instruct those that oppose themselves; if God will perhaps give them repentance when they acknowledge the truth.
A lot of folks don’t appreciate the truth because they must confront their demons. It is legitimate for a baby to want to be coddled and pampered. But at some point that baby needs to grow up. A humble person will admit it when they make a mistake, God can help this person. When we stand before God, we will be all by ourselves. We will have no one to blame for the choices we made.
1 Timothy 1:15
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Paul was a great sinner but he didn’t know it until the Lord told him. How many folks will not confess they are sinners because someone made them who they are today? “It’s not my fault man” or “It’s just the way I was raised.” When I was a child I loved the pity my mother gave me. Pity is an excuse to act like a child and some hold fast to it as long as they can. There is a time and a place for pity, but at some point in time we must be weaned from the milk of life. When I was in the Navy, I watched all these “victims” offer excuses as to why they couldn’t follow orders. Either they grew up fast or they had to deal with the discipline they never had.
The things I have taught you, the same commit to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
When I was growing up, there were certain men I admired and I wanted to be like them. A child cannot act like a man. Only a man can act like a man. So I had to begin to put away my childish ways. Everyone grows up at their own pace. You can grow up too fast and you can grow too slow. Faithful men can help boys grow to be faithful men.
If a man thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
A man can be influenced by what he thinks. Where are these thoughts coming from? It’s what we give ourselves to that determines what manner of man we become. We all want to present ourselves in the best possible light, but are we being honest and upright with ourselves? People who know everything and have done everything do not attract a lot of close friends. They will blame other folks, probably claiming that those people are just jealous. When a person is their own worst enemy, it is very difficult to convince them of their own self-destruction. We must always be honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our own lives. This is when God can step in and make a difference. He is an expert in making champions out of losers.
