Israel were the Egyptian’s slaves for four hundred and thirty years. At the end of these years, God sent Moses into Egypt to lead God’s people out of captivity, but Pharaoh’s heart was hardened towards God. The nine plagues could not change his heart. The last plague would set God’s people free. God would  execute judgment against the gods of Egypt. Anyone who worshipped these gods would share in their judgment. The night before the final plague, Moses was instructed to tell the Jews to take a yearling lamb.

Exodus 12:9
Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head, his legs and the internal organs.

I have read this Scripture dozens of times, but I just read over this  part, thinking it was cut and dry. But the Holy Ghost got me to thinking about all the parts of the lamb they were instructed to eat. In the natural I am not much of a mutton eater. However, if I am going to eat a lamb, I would want the choice cuts. I would disregard the head, the legs and the organs. Israel is instructed to eat every thing but the fleece. God must have had a reason or it wouldn’t be in our Bibles.

This lamb was a type of Jesus, Jesus was the Word of God made flesh. There are various parts of Him (the Word) that we particularly  cherish. We tend to desire the choice parts of the Word but avoid some of the less appealing parts. What if Israel chose to eat the best of the lamb and threw away the head and legs? Maybe when they left Egypt, the Egyptians wouldn’t have felt compelled to heap all that wealth on them! Moses said that man does not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. How many Christians cheat themselves out of the blessing because they adhere to only choice parts of God’s Word? My God shall supply all of your needs according to His riches in glory.
This is a piece of the main part of the lamb, it is a choice cut and very desirable. Every Christian loves this part of the lamb, but it is not the only part. In my house growing up, you did not waste food, my dad did not permit it. I say unto you, love your enemies, do good to them which hate you.

This Scripture is one you would associate with the legs and head of the lamb. Kinda hard to chew and not much flavor, but full of life. If we are not willing to eat this part of the lamb, the part that promises to supply all our needs won’t be available to us.  We can’t love the lamb chops and hate the leg meat, we cannot divide Christ. Take, eat this, this is My Body which is broken for you.

The Body of Christ was broken but not divided. We need the whole package if we are to have all the benefits. We are “Word people”, we must never become “favorite Word people”. The more of the lamb you eat, the more full you become. Come to the table, where the supper of life is served. The fleece is our Bible (Word) covers.
