keep it short

When we read about the ministry of Jesus in the Gospels, we see Him healing folks with very little fanfare.  There was far more healing and supernatural events than there was discussion.  Most folks wouldn’t pay much attention to this fact, but the Holy Spirit draws our attention to them in order to teach us something.

Mark 5:33 The women fearing fell down before Jesus, and told Him everything.

This is the woman with the issue of blood.  She was healed when she tugged on the hem of His man dress.  She and Jesus never exchanged one single word between them.  He knew nothing of her condition until after she was made whole.  The time for conversation is after the manifestation, not before!  Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house to pray for his dying daughter; Jairus needed to hear the testimony of the woman.  As Jesus and Jairus left the woman, word came that his daughter had died.  Jesus turned to him and said:

Be not afraid, only believe.

This is how the woman received her healing.  She had the courage to touch Him and believe.  When Jesus reached Jairus’ house, the family and friends were talking all kinds of smack.  Jesus kicked them out of the house.  The time of talking was over, it was time for prayer.

Damsel, I say unto you arise.

Jesus paid no mind to everything the family said.  He spoke what the Father gave Him to speak.  All prayer must be based on the Word of God.  Anything beyond that can begin to dilute the Word.  We can begin in faith and talk ourselves into unbelief.  Speak the Word only and let God confirm it.

Mathew 6:7 When you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Long wordy prayers are not near as effective as those short prayers based on the Word of God.  Why do people of faith think they must pray long windy prayers?  I have two reasons.  Number one: when a person is prayed for, they have been led to believe the longer the prayer, the more effective and the more powerful.  The second reason: when a person asks for prayer, they often times give too much background information.  This can cloud the mind of the person praying and they pray based on all the information they were given.  My counsel is this, when you want prayer tell them what you want in as few words as possible.

Proverbs 6:2 You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

Our words matter, the fewer words we speak, the less likely we are to harm our lives.  Jesus healed a leper with two words: I will.  We would be wise to emulate the Master, after all, it’s His anointing that we have been entrusted with.

A wise man speaks because he has something to say.  A fool speaks because he has to say something.
