He commands all men to repent, to reconsider and to think differently. Ignorance is a choice, and we will be judged for what we choose to give ourselves to. Men will stand before God and say, “I didn’t know”, and God will say to most of them, “you chose not to know”! There is a Scripture in the book of Romans that says when certain people do not have access to the truth they will by nature do what the truth states. They will be judged by what they believed, but others who have access to the truth will be judged for what they chose to do with it
1 Timothy 1:13 I was all about destroying the church of Jesus Christ: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
The Apostle Paul truly thought he was doing God a favor by crushing this new doctrine put forth by a man named Jesus from Galilee. Paul hated Jesus because he was ignorant of who Jesus was. Paul was on his way to Damascus to arrest all the Christians, but he met Jesus on the way and Jesus healed his ignorance. Paul had one thing going for him, he was committed to the truth, he just didn’t know what it was. Paul could have spurned his visitation with Jesus and Jesus would have selected another man to be His apostle to the gentiles. I wonder how many people have refused God because their commitment to ignorance.
Acts 17:11 These men were more open minded than the others in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were true.
Where do you stand? Are you stuck in your ways, or can God open your heart to more of Him? If God reveals something to you, you can find what He says in your Bible. If you’re committed to knowing everything God wants you to have, then you’re doing something good. Be content with everything He gives you because you will never know it all in this life. God does not want us ignorant; He will provide us with everything we need to live a victorious life. Every time He reveals something to you, you will draw closer to Him and have more confidence in His love towards you.
1 Corinthians 14:38 But if any man be ignorant let him be ignorant.
Some people for whatever reason are content to remain ignorant, they refuse any information that would elevate their knowledge. I knew a man in the navy who had been in for seventeen years and he was only an E-3, he should have been an E-7. He said he didn’t want the responsibility that came with promotion. The navy gave him an alternative, take the test to be an E-4 or get kicked out of the navy. He took the test and passed it; he was given a huge pay raise and he regretted his past ignorance. When God gives us knowledge, it will always bring promotion.
