gluttony vs. hunger

This morning as I asked the Lord for my daily bread. He gave me two words, gluttony and hunger.  Well, this is all I needed to start my day and have my portion of revelation knowledge.  I am not a dietician, I will not be addressing anyone’s eating habits.  Hunger is a desire for the things one needs to maintain his life.  Gluttony is an uncontrollable urge to take more than you need.

Mathew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

No one can be so filled with righteousness that they could not be used any more.  Righteousness is the life blood of every born-again child of God, no one can have too much life.  When Jesus says the hungry will be filled, He is not referring to a one time event.  God has only one kind of righteousness but men’s activities put it at different levels.  When you confess Jesus as your Savior you become the righteousness of God and the Lord prepares in heaven a place for you.  However, a lot of Christians do not make Jesus the Lord of their life, so they lack the righteousness they need to live above the evil in this world.

Luke 6:46 Why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say.

After Jesus rebuked His disciples He went on to reveal the difference between the obedient and the disobedient.  He compared two men who were building their homes, one built on the rock and the other built on sand.  The dude who built on the rock did it the right way, the other guy who built on the sand took the easy way out.  One man had an appetite for following instructions, the other dude had more important things to do.

Proverbs 15:27 He that is greedy of gain disturbs his own house.

Often times when a man wants a lot of things, he will compromise to get them and end up short changing himself.  A glutton always wants more but they can never be filled, they are like a grazing cow that feeds from morning until night.  A Christian can never be a glutton for the Word because the Word is eternal and no man can have too much eternity.  No man can be too hungry for the Word because the Word is needed every day to cover the whole spectrum of life.  God gives us one day at a time, He gives us our daily bread for each new day.  We need this daily bread to maintain the house we built on the rock.

Luke 1:53 God has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He has sent empty away.

In the natural, hunger is a predictable thing, we all need to eat or we will die of malnutrition.  In the spirit realm hunger is a choice, man must choose and develop an appetite for the Word of God.  Taste and see that the Lord is good.  Once you sincerely taste the Word you can never get enough.  The devil will always try to feed you religion which is nothing more than junk food.
