As a young boy I always wanted to do what I saw everyone else do and my parents always nailed me with that ever popular cliché.
If all your friends all went and jumped in the lake, would you follow them in?
We have been trained by the world to speak out what we see. When Jesus was crossing the lake with His disciples they said the “wind is boisterous”, they spoke out and said “we will perish”. They woke up Jesus but He would not speak out what they said, He rebuked the wind and it became calm.
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Why can’t people in “the flesh” please God? People who live exclusively in the flesh are moved by what they see, touch, smell, hear and taste. These five attributes of the flesh are the bases of all their confessions. This will not come to an end even after the new birth, these confessions will not change until the convert begins to “renew their mind”. When a saint renews their mind they stop repeating what they see, and they speak what God says in His Word.
So then they that are of faith will work to always please God.
The man who lives by the faith of the Son of God does not repeat what he sees, he repeats what he hears God say. This man has found the secret of living the blessed life, He now lives in blessed hope, he expects God to confirm His Word over him every day.
