your prophet

In the old covenant there were three callings that were anointed, the king, the priest and the prophet.  If someone needed to know God’s will they would enquire of the local prophet.

1 Kings 22:7 And Jehoshaphat said, is there not here a prophet of the Lord besides, that we might inquire of him?

Men of old made decisions that would impact their lives based on the word of a prophet.  Before the new covenant, men were spiritually dead, except for the three afore mentioned men.  Those three classes of men were anointed to stand between God and His people.  The king of Israel had a prophet he used and his name was Micaiah, but the king hated him!  Micaiah always repeated what the Lord said and it wasn’t always good news.  A true prophet will always repeat exactly what God says, he won’t alter one word, he will speak it as it is.  Now let’s advance into the future and right pass the cross.  Everything in the old covenant passed through the cross, some things came to an end and some things passed through the cross changed.

John 16:13 When the Holy Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into the truth; He won’t speak of Himself; but whatever He hears that shall  He speak: and He will show   you things to come.

In the old covenant the Holy Spirit spoke to the prophets, but in the new covenant He speaks to all the born-again Christians.  The new testament prophets will still receive a word from the Lord, but we have the witness of the same Holy Spirit to judge that word.  God does not want us to rely on a prophet to lead us, He wants to guide and lead His people.  Over the years many people have “spoken a word over me”, some witnessed and came to pass and some did not.  If someone gives me a word I don’t make allowance for it until I get a witness.  I know of a man who was told by the presbytery to sell his business, pack his bags and prepare for a calling to a foreign land as a missionary.  He waited for six months and spent most of his money waiting for his assignment.  He finally got a loan and bought his business back and is there to this day.

Proverbs 6:2 You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

God has given us His Words to speak, we will never  jeopardize our life if we speak His will.  The Lord said we could have whatsoever we say and then He tells us what to say.

We are the prophet of our own life.

In the new covenant God passes the middle man and speak directly to us.  Let me offer you a word of caution, don’t be out giving people “a word” until you first learn to hear God for yourself.  Say what God gives you to say and you will have what God says you could have.  This law can also work against you if you say what the world wants you to have.  The world says you must be sick and poor, don’t let the world be the prophet of your life!  Prophesy what the Lord gives you and you will live in prosperity all the days of your life.
