why tongues?

It is a good thing to be baptized with the Holy Ghost and it’s even a better thing to know why.  I have met a lot of folks over the years who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, spoke in tongues once and then never again.  The gift of salvation is the greatest gift followed closely by the baptism of the Holy Ghost.  Before Jesus returned to heaven He told His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit and the Spirit would take His place.  Jesus taught and led His disciples, the Holy Ghost teaches and leads us.  When a person is baptized into the Holy Ghost, they will speak in tongues, leaving no question that they are now filled.

Why Tongues?

1 Corinthians 14:2 Those who speak in strange tongues do not speak to others but to God, because no one understands them.  They are speaking secret truths by the power of the Spirit.

Tongues is a divine prayer language imparted by the Holy Ghost where you become prepared to pray perfect prayers every time.  God knows what we need before we ask but we still need to ask, the Holy Spirit knows more about what we need than we do.  We don’t always know what we are praying about, we need to trust the Holy Ghost and that requires faith.  I can tell you by experience and through the Scriptures that the more you pray in tongues the more involved in your life God will be.  Nothing will attract God’s attention quicker than prayers that are released in faith.

1 Corinthians 14:4 He that prays in an unknown tongue builds himself up.

People who are dedicated to praying in tongues daily are always equipped to handle every spiritual issue.  If you are filled with the Spirit you have the answer to every problem within you.  God is not with us just to fix our problems, the Holy Spirit will often times use our tongues to praise our Lord.  The Holy Ghost leads us to do what Jesus led His disciples to do, having the Spirit is like having Jesus.

Romans 8:26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.  For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for.  But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

There are certain things for our lives and the lives of others that are needful and prayer is the only thing that will meet those needs.  But if we won’t pray the prayers the Holy Spirit is leading us to pray, then God’s will cannot be fulfilled.  If we are faithful to pray, then in most cases we have received the answer before the problem is offered.

1 Corinthians 12:7 The manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

A Bible manifestation is God giving evidence of something spiritual, it is confirmation of God’s Word.  So, tongues is the manifestation of the Spirit, when we are faithful to pray in tongues the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit will begin to operate.  And folks this will work for anyone not just preachers, the Holy Spirit and His nine gifts are for whosoever will.  Why tongues?  Because God cannot answer prayers that are not spoken, we can never pray too much but we can pray too little.
