The Spirit and the Soul

God is a Spirit and you are a spirit. God’s Spirit and our spirit have a supernatural method of communication. A lot of people look for a voice they have never heard before, thinking that is God’s way to communicate. We have a soul which is our mind, will and emotions. God does not speak into our soul, but the devil does because he was kicked out of the spirit realm. We need to acknowledge the distinction between our spirit and our soul. The devil will speak into our minds and try to intimidate God’s voice, he will try to sound like God!

We must come to accept that God and the devil speak at totally different levels. Even if the devil could imitate God’s voice he cannot say what God says. The devil is a liar, he can’t speak the truth because there is no truth in him. God is truth, it is impossible for Him to lie. These two distinctions are what separate the two voices. The devil relies on fear so everything he says will have an element of fear. Everything the Lord says will have an element of peace.

John 6:63 It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh (soul) profits nothing. The words that I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are life.

Whatever God says will need to be received by faith. Whatever the devil says can be reasoned out. Whatever God says can be confirmed from the Holy Book, it is discerned. Whatever the devil says can be found in the books of men, it is open to interpretation. When God speaks something to me, He speaks to my spirit. If I don’t write it down I will soon forget what He said. My soul is where my memory is. I can hear from God in my spirit, but I must speak it to my soul and commit it to memory. So it is easier to remember what the devil says than what God says! So what do you do about it? Renew your mind to God’s Word and wash out all the trash the devil deposited in there. Then when God speaks you will be able to prove what His good, acceptable and perfect will is.

Hebrews 4:12 The Word of God is alive and sharper than a two-edged sword, capable of dividing the soul from the spirit.

Before your new birth your soul and spirit were essentially one. After the new birth you begin to renew your mind and the Word begins to make a distinction between the two. Your soul is connected to the psoo-khay realm, this is the Greek word we got the word psychology from. Our soul is connected to this fallen world. Our spirit has been translated into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son. They occupy the same body, but receive information from entirely different sources.
The devil can work in our soul, but he cannot enter the realm of our spirit. The Spirit realm is the secret place of the Most High, a place reserved for just the righteous. It is our spirit that the Holy Spirit has come to lead into all truth. If our mind is renewed, it won’t hinder the leading of the Spirit. If it is not renewed it will demand physical evidence. A spirit is a terrible thing to waste.

Psalm 26:4 Lord you can scrutinize me. Refine my heart and probe my every thought. Put me to the test and you will find it is true.

1 Peter 4:17 For judgement begins at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Psalm 139: 23, 24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me of unbelief and lead me in the way everlasting.

2 Timothy 2:4 No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of (civilian) life: his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him (God)! DO ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD!
