All men must deal with a myriad of things in their life, some important and some not so important. If we are the adult of our lives then we can put all our responsibilities in a category of our choosing. How important is it to you if someone comes to church early and sits in your favorite chair? I have watched some folks get so mad they spent their time in church in another chair burning with anger at the chair thief. As people we will experience disappointments or blessings every day of our lives.
Luke 10:41 And Jesus said, Martha, Martha, you are careful and troubled about many things.
When you read this account of Martha and her sister Mary, there is no record of any man in that house complaining about the ladies’ hospitality. Based on my understanding of the Scriptures, if any of Jesus’ staff would have complained He would have rebuked them. We humans tend to overreact over the silliest things that would amount to nothing. We will assign certain priorities to everything that happens in our life. It seems like the things that we deem life or death situations get the most worry and anxiety. If we address something as if it’s a “big deal” then it will be a stressful time, if we view something as minor and simple then that’s what it will be.
1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your cares upon the Lord; for He cares for you.
I have known some folks who went to a doctor to have a wart removed, and you would think they had an arm amputated. I have known others who had open heart surgery and they acted as if they just had a wart removed. What’s the difference between these two people, one made the simple a priority and the other made the complex simple. If we can learn to roll all care over onto the Lord and let Him deal with them, then we can assign every issue in our life a low priority. We have the choice as to how big we want our mountain to be. I believe that some folks will take a manageable molehill and turn it into a mountain. Ever heard of a person who was afraid of their own shadow? We cast our own shadow and then become afraid of it.
Mark 5:36 When word came that Jairus’ daughter had died, He said to Jairus, do not be afraid, only believe.
Jesus could very well be speaking to anyone of us, He says to us, do not be afraid, only believe what He said He would do. Evidently Jairus gave heed to His word because he was one of the few Jews allowed to be in the room when Jesus raised his daughter from the dead. What if Jairus would have gotten into fear? He would have disqualified Jesus from the miracle because the girl was his daughter.
If we roll our care over on the Lord, He cares for us. It takes faith to trust Jesus with your life, it will require you to give up all your cares and worries. If you truly trust Jesus then nothing will be a big deal, He always makes things all right. If Jesus is the biggest deal in your life then everything else can be overcome. The whole nation of Israel was afraid of Goliath, but David had more faith in his God than some mouthy giant, Goliath was no big deal.
For I know the grace of Jesus, He was a wealthy man.
He was a tither and a sower,
but one day He became poor.
He became the curse,
He bear my poverty and lack.
Now I am increased with goods, God shed His grace on me.
Matthew 9:37 Jesus said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He will send out laborers into His harvest.”
