John 8:32 And you will know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
No man can be truly free apart from the truth. So, how do we know what is true and what is false? Read the text again, Jesus says we will know the truth, let’s define the word know. Know: made aware of, feel, perceive, be sure, understand. The truth is not an elusive commodity, anyone who sets their heart to know the truth will be rewarded. When a person is ignorant of the truth it’s because they didn’t press for it with due diligence.
The truth is what happens, not what comes out of someone’s mouth.
John 20:30-31 After Jesus arose from the dead, He performed miracles in the presence of His disciples. These signs were recorded that you may believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
I choose to believe the account of those men who had seen and touched Jesus after His resurrection. I know the truth and now I am free of all doubt and foolish questions. I have so much faith in the truth that what others would say means nothing to me. I believe Jesus rose from the dead exactly the way the Lord’s disciples recorded it.
Luke 4:4 And Jesus said to the devil, it is written that a man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
I have heard people say that the Bible is full of error because it was written by men. Jesus said we must live by every Word God had those men write. So, if there are any errors God will have to honor them. No man is responsible for any errors God makes!!! Who would ever want to alter God’s Word? What could they possibly gain?
1 Timothy 4:1 In the last days many shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirit and doctrines of devils.
The devil has slipped his doctrine into the churches in order to seduce people away from the truth. From his very beginning the devil wanted to be like God and have people worship him. He set out to rustle God’s sheep away by offering an alternative to the truth. The truth makes us free of the demands of our flesh, if we are not free the devil can manipulate us by enticing our flesh to satisfy its lusts. If you want to sin and not be judged just embrace the doctrines the devil has led into some of the churches. When you believe God you worship Him, when you believe the devil you worship him.
John 16:13 When He, the Spirit of Truth is come, He will guide you into all truth.
Jesus had to die in order for man to have the truth, the truth was bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus. If a man would embrace the “truth” of the devil, he will have to pay for it himself. The truth is so important that the Lord would trust only His Holy Spirit to deliver it to us.
Jesus was the greatest Gift any man could ever have. What makes it so awesome is that none of us have earned Him. Jesus is truly a Love Gift and love should be the motive for all gifts. Jesus was born in a barn and ever since that day He is “born-again” over and over in the barns of people’s lives. He is not like a tie that goes out of style nor is He like a power tool that wears out. When a man receives the Gift of life, it remains with him forever and never wears out.
Acts 2:38 Be baptized into the Name of Jesus (born-again) for the remission of sins and you will receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost.
In order to stave off confusion, let me remind you of God’s identity; He is Father, Son and Spirit. If you have Jesus in your heart you have the Father and the Spirit, let us not divide God. When a person is born-again, God in His fullness enters their life but they are not baptized in the Holy Ghost. A man can have the Holy Ghost apart from the power of the Holy Ghost. In essence, after our new birth we are offered the opportunity to receive the ministry of the Spirit.
Acts 1:8 You will receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you.
When you receive the Holy Spirit you do not get more “God” in your life, you get more manifestation of Him. We are mere men just like Jesus until the Holy Ghost fills us, then we have the same gift and power that Jesus had. The Gift of the Holy Ghost reminds me everyday of the Gift of Jesus, the Gift of eternal life. I can’t remember any of my Christmas gifts that people gave me, but there is no way I can forget Jesus. The world has a cliché, “you can’t take it with you”. That’s not entirely true, we will take the gifts of the Spirit to heaven with us. Jesus came back to the synagogue in Nazareth where He grew up and He read out of the book of Isaiah.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel and set men free...
Jesus found Himself in the Bible, all of us have an obligation to find ourselves in the book. No man could persuade Jesus to do anything apart from His assignment. He knew who He was and what He was born to do. Do you know who you are? Do you know what you were born to do? Are you one of those people who wander through life not knowing what you’re here for? I found in the Bible where I once was and where I am today.
John 3:18 He that believes not is condemned already because he had not believed in the Name.
This was me in the Bible, I was scheduled for hell because I didn’t believe in the Gift of life, the Lord Jesus.
Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart God raised Jesus from the dead you will be saved.
This is my new place in the Bible, I am now in Christ because God said it and that settles it. God gives good gifts and they last forever.
When folks believe God is mysterious, they never try to understand Him. People who are of the religious persuasion love to say this about the things they don’t understand about God:
God moves in mysterious ways!
Actually, they are correct! When a person does not know the Lord, He is a mysterious creature to them. For many years I too was ignorant of God’s will towards men and myself. But after I was born again the Holy Ghost came into my life. I didn’t know right away but the Holy Spirit began to reveal Christ to me. Everything is a mystery to those who have no revelation and without the Holy Spirit there can be no revelation. God does not want to be a mystery to His people. Jesus said: “if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.”
Ephesians 3:9 I want to make all men see what their part of the mystery is, which was hidden from the beginning in God Who created all things.
Before the birth of Jesus, His death and resurrection, the plan of salvation was hidden in order to keep it from the devil. The mystery of God’s will was hidden for us, not from us. When Jesus returned to heaven He sent the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s plan from the very beginning. The devil knows that when men listen to the Holy Ghost, they will gain understanding so it is imperative that he does his best to discredit the Spirit of God. Closing your ears to the Spirit is like a drowning man who rejects a life preserver thrown to him. Why does he reject the life preserver? I cannot offer you a valid reason. In the case of the Jews, Jesus said they were a stiff necked people, they were very stubborn when it came to releasing the law that was done away with.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord will do nothing, but He reveals His secret to His prophets.
When the prophets foretold of the blessings God had in store for Israel, the people were glad and rejoiced. But when the prophets foretold of the coming of the Messiah, the Jews killed those prophets. This is a typical exercise of “religion”, if you don’t agree with the message then kill the messenger! They killed the prophets, they killed Jesus and they killed the apostles, but they couldn’t touch the Spirit. If they could lock away the Holy Ghost; they could bar men from the mystery. The fools are still trying and still failing.
2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of God: but holy men of God spoke as moved by the Holy Ghost.
The devil truly thought he could keep the Word of God in the realm of mystery if he could just kill the Son of God. We can only imagine how elated the devil was when he saw Jesus in hell, once a man went to hell his sin kept him there for eternity. We can only imagine how grieved the devil was on the third day when Jesus came screaming out of the pit. The devil thought he got a reprieve when Jesus ascended into heaven, but then men began to be filled with the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues. Men began to understand the mystery that was hidden for them and the devil got exposed. When lies are exposed, they become useless and ineffective.
Eight days after Jesus was born He was circumcised. He was a proper Jewish boy. He grew up in the town of Nazareth, by what we know He was just another kid in the neighborhood.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and age and in favor with God and men.
Jesus was born a baby, He knew only what babies know. He had to grow in knowledge just like all babies. I heard a lady teach a Bible study one day and she made this connection: God knows all things, so Jesus was embarrassed when Mary changed His diaper! This is ignorance gone to seed. Jesus was willing to strip Himself of all the attributes that made Him God in order to please the Father. Jesus read and studied the Old Testament writings of the prophets in order to meet and know Jehovah. Joseph taught Jesus to be a carpenter but that wasn’t His calling. He was an ordained minister. He was a rabbi.
Luke 2:49 Do you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?
Jesus was a rabbi under the law but he answered to God, not the Scribes and Pharisees. The Jewish leadership was corrupt, they didn’t care anything about the people. When Jesus came along ministering to the people He made them look bad. They became jealous and began to look for things to accuse Him of so they could justify killing Him. We know very little about the early years of Jesus. Some have written books claiming to have “revelation” of His childhood, but unless they can show me in the Scriptures, I will not believe one word of it.
Luke 3:22 The Holy Ghost descended in the shape of a dove upon Jesus, and a voice came from heaven saying, You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.
Jesus did nothing of significance until the Holy Spirit came to Him. Jesus could do nothing of Himself, He was just a man like you and I. The Bible calls Him Son of God, Son of man. The Bible refers to the whole human race as the sons of man, we are all the descendants of Adam just like Jesus. But He was also the Son of God because the Holy Spirit was His Father. The Holy Spirit was the one who planted the seed in the virgin.
Philippians 2:7 Jesus stripped Himself (of all privileges and dignity of being God) so as to assume the guise of a servant, in that He became like a man, born a human being.
Jesus was a man and remained a man until He was resurrected. He is now a man with a glorified body. He ministered for about three and a half years and during that time He was tired, hungry, thirsty and rejected by those He was sent to. Jesus would never have made it without the Holy Ghost, He could only do and say what the Father gave Him to do. Jesus had to find Himself in the Scriptures and then He had to submit to what they said about Him. Most times we must remind ourselves that Jesus is the best Christmas Gift we have or ever will receive. Merry Christmas!
In the military soldiers constantly train over and over, they are preparing for a day they hope will never come. In a time of war there is confusion and chaos, if you’re not prepared for it, it will overtake you. Training is all about repetition, it’s doing the right thing again and again despite all and any circumstance. Men who have experienced war are the best instructors, a recruit will not soon forget the assertive voice of his sergeant. When the bullets fly and bombs explode a recruit will still hear the commands of his sergeant at arms.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.
We must study the Word of God until we find out what pleases Him. What pleases the Lord will displace the devil in the day of adversity. Sad to report but some believers don’t prepare for the devil until he shows up. They do not hear the voice of the One who was sent to train them for warfare. They get confused when adversity comes because they do not know how to divide the Word of truth. Not everything the Lord has spoken applies to the New Testament child of God. So, the Christian can be readily deceived because they didn’t study the program.
Romans 8:17 We are the children of God and joint heirs with Christ, if we suffer.
A lot of Christians think we must suffer with sickness, disease and lack in order to become children of God. They have not been taught how to correctly divide the Word of God. The suffering we must endure is the transition from flesh to Spirit, it’s enduring all the temptations of the devil. Why should we suffer with sickness when Jesus has carried all our sickness and disease? The devil has no problem manipulating ignorant people, they do not know how to resist him. In bootcamp the first thing they do is issue you a uniform, but that does not make you a soldier, you just look like one. You became a Christian in less than a minute but it takes a lifetime to learn to live like one.
Ephesians 4:15 Speaking the truth in love, we may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.
When a drill instructor is yelling at his recruits, you would be hard pressed to believe he loves them. But there has to be an element of love because he is dedicated to saving their lives. Whatever the Lord speaks to us, it is in love because He wants us to live a victorious life. We must grow up to be like Him, a man who is dedicated to pleasing his commanding officer. Babies do not make good soldiers but grown men do, especially if they follow orders. Those who are willing to be trained will see good days, they will see the enemy defeated before their eyes. For those who don’t put in the time, the devil at times will appear to be too much for them. It will be like the man who began to build his house in the middle of a storm. He will have to put in more work and he will need help if he can find it. Faith cometh and the devil cometh, thank God faith cometh first.
People’s faith, their pet beliefs and religion all contribute to their perception of God. Whatsoever a person believes about God will be their idea of who God is. As a person of “religion” I perceived God as being powerful and mad at me and my sinful nature. The only time I could see God in a favorable sense was when I sacrificed to do something good. I just knew for sure He was out to “get me” for all the things I did wrong.
Mathew 19:17 There is none good but one that is God.
Romans 5:12 By one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men.
The “religion” I was indoctrinated with was based on Scriptures like these. I was convinced that I could never be good enough for God to love me. I was taught that we must bear Adam’s sin and the threat of death was always what I had to look forward to. Now all these Scriptures are true but God had more to say that went far beyond my problem.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. . .
1 Timothy 2:4 God would have all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.
These Scriptures were never ministered to me, my denomination did not want me to be free, they wanted me to depend on them for any hope of salvation. So, all my young life I had a distorted view of the God I had a love hate relationship with. One night something happened to me that I didn’t fully understand until months later. I asked Jesus to come into my heart and I was baptized with the Holy Ghost and supernaturally healed.
John 15:26 When the Holy Ghost comes even the Spirit of Truth, He will testify of Me.
The Holy Spirit in me began to reveal Jesus to me, I began to see God as He truly is and not someone men “thought” He was. It took me quite awhile to understand how good my Lord was, I had to have my brain washed out of all the “religion” I was taught. God loves to reveal Himself to people, the only secret I know of that He has is when He’s coming back for us. If a man does not know the Lord, how can he possibly present Him to anyone? I want to present God in truth and let God be God, no one needs to apologize or make excuses for Him.
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord.
No one can put their trust in the Lord until he first knows the Lord. God does not choose to be a stranger to anyone, He wants to reveal Himself to every man. I was afraid of God because I knew I was a sinner. I had no idea that He came to save sinners, I thought He came to judge me. I truly love getting to know my Lord because now I know He loves me and has saved me. I want to let God be God, He is just perfect the way He is.
If you have a mind, then you know full well about all the good, bad and weird thoughts that introduce themselves to you. Some thoughts are so bizarre we don’t even want to share them with anyone.
Proverbs 23:7 For as you think in your heart so are you.
Those thoughts that enter our mind can have a profound affect on our lives. If you are wise you will determine the source of your thoughts, sort out the evil ones and hold fast to the good ones. All thoughts originate from one of two sources, the Lord our God or the god of this world, the devil. What about all of our modern technology, where did those thoughts and concepts come from? The Lord our God gives us the knowledge of witty inventions.
If you think you can, you’re right. If you think you can’t, you’re right.
Why do you choose to listen to people who think life is impossible and too hard to live successfully? I like what the Christian conservative Paul Harvey use to say on his daily broadcast: wash your mind out with this. Paul Harvey always had a positive, upbeat broadcast every day, he was always encouraging. So, how do we develop a positive, can do attitude that we can live with?
Romans 12:2 Do not be molded by the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and then you will prove to yourself, what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.
Sitting around hoping things will improve is an exercise in futility, it’s like telling a stove to give you heat and then you will give it wood. We need to be proactive when it comes to renovating our minds, they don’t just change for no reason. If you are a student of the world system you are filling your mind with contaminated material, that makes your task that much harder. Judas was a committed thief, so the devil knew exactly what to target, Judas offered no resistance. Despite the prophetic warning of Jesus, Judas thought he was doing the right thing by betraying the Master.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 If our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not.
The devil can be very convincing when it comes to opposing the Lord, he can sound like it’s the right thing to do. The devil had no problem blinding the mind of Judas. How can we know when the devil is inundating us with his thoughts and schemes? He will always put the emphasis on us, he will not mention God unless it is to misquote Him. If he blinds your mind you won’t think in line with God’s Word and you will feel good about the error he presents you.
When you hear the thoughts of God they will be thoughts of peace and not of evil, and they will indicate something good is coming. Don’t trust your thought life to anyone but Jesus, we can’t afford to act on the thoughts of the devil, we don’t want to be a loser like him.
God is the Father of all spirits and every spirit He creates will live forever, you cannot cause a spirit to cease to exist. This is the reason the devil is still with us today, he is a spirit in search of a body. The Bible teaches us that man is a spirit, he possesses a soul which is his mind, will and emotions and he lives in a body or an earth suit. All men live forever whether they be alive in their spirit or if they are spiritually dead. A person who is spiritually dead is like their father Adam after he sinned, they have no connection to God, they are connected to the devil.
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made a live.
All men are born into this world spiritually dead, we must choose to have the life Christ died to give us. According to the law of Genesis every seed produces after its own kind. Consequently Adam passed his spiritual death upon all his descendants, I submit to you that this was a blessing in disguise.
Romans 5:18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
According to the law of Genesis all mankind was guilty of Adam’s sin and all mankind can be guilty of Christ’s righteousness! No one had a choice when it came to Adam’s sin but all men have a choice when it comes to the righteousness of Christ. After a man receives Jesus he can then sow to the Spirit and not just the flesh, the Bible calls sowing to the Spirit: well doing.
Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary (faint, weak) in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Permit me to offer you a parable: when you work hard on your job or around your house you grow physically weary. You need to take some time to rest, time to revive your tired body, but what about your spirit. We can become weary in well doing, sowing from our spirit and awaiting the results. So, what do we need? Revival!
2 Corinthians 2:13 I had no rest in my spirit because I could not find my brother Titus.
When Paul found Titus he was relieved, he found exactly what he needed. The spirit of man never sleeps but it can grow weary in well doing and with disappointment. How does God revive the spirits of men? He reiterates what He has spoken from the beginning, He speaks exactly what we need to hear.
Isaiah 28:12 And God said, this is the rest where with you may cause the weary to rest, and this is the refreshing: but they would not hear.
God cannot revive the weary soul against their will, we must be willing to hear, believe and receive. Brother Joe is a revivalist anointed of God to bring us back to the refreshing, a time to hear and receive.
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, it means different things to different people. Children love Christmas, the lights, the songs, the food, and oh yes the presents. But for a lot of adults Christmas is a lot of work, worry and expenses, some go in debt over Christmas. The true meaning of Christmas manages to get lost amid all the preparations. To better understand Christmas we must begin in the book of Genesis.
Genesis 3:15 I will put hostility between you (the devil) and the woman and between your seed and HER SEED: it shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.
All through the Bible the birth of a child was referred as the seed of man, but this would be the seed of the woman. Her seed would not come from a man, it would come from the Holy Spirit and she would be a virgin. The devil received the prophetic Word God gave him, so he was determined to kill the child of the woman. He did not know which woman or when, so he set out to kill everyone associated with the birth of her baby.
Acts 7:52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? They have killed them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers.
The devil knew a man was coming to destroy him and his plans for mankind, but he didn’t know the identity of the man. The devil does not have access to revelation knowledge, he gets his revelations from us when the Lord gives them to us and we speak them. He heard the shepherds and wise men talking about a new born King. Men could hear the angels singing and so the devil could hear them, he knew this may be the seed of the woman. The devil stirred Herod and got him convinced that a King was born who would dethrone him. So, he ordered the slaughter of all the male kids two years and under. Have you noticed that the devil’s solution for everything is death, just kill them all.
Mathew 2:11 When the wise men came into the house they worshipped the child and they presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Jesus was a very rich child and he was only a few days old. The gifts of the wise men were very costly, they were given to kings and royalty. Who were these wise men? The wise men were the descendants of Abraham, when they became men they traveled east and dwelt there. Father Abraham told them that one day one of his descendants would be born a King of the nation. There were not three wise men, Jewish history tells us that there were between ten and fifty wise men. They all brought gifts and their gifts were one of the three you gave to a new born king.
Notice our text, the wise men came into the house. Jesus was born in a barn because the hotels were full, after He was born they moved into a house.
Sometimes when I think of the heroes in the Bible I wonder what it would be like to live in their day. I think about Elijah and the Apostle Paul and how they walked so closely to God and worked miracles. But not all of the characters in the Bible were highly spoken of, in fact many of them are in hell today. Every person ever born of a woman has a place in the Bible and not every place is a blessing.
Job 12:10 For the life of every living thing is in His hand, and the breath of every human being.
No one is ever born into this world by accident, God personally knows every person ever born of a woman. No one can exist in this life without God’s intervention into the life cycle. If you are a living creature you are recorded in the Bible, God gave you your breath.
Hebrews 12:9 Shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of Spirits and live?
God and only God creates spirits, when a woman conceives in her womb God imparts a spirit into that new flesh and external life begins. If that new life dies in the womb or is ripped out, that spirit will return to it’s Heavenly Father. God is the Father of all spirits but not all spirits accept Him as their Lord. Hell is getting full of spirits that God created but hell was not suppose to be their final destination.
Galatians 3:8 The Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the gentiles right in His sight because of their faith.
The gentiles, also called heathens, are all the people who have no covenant with the Father of Spirits. This is our position in the world when we begin our life. We are recorded in the Bible and satan is our father, most people don’t take this serious. The god of this world blinds our minds from the truth and so we have no fear of hell, because it is totally misrepresented by “religion”! We are in the Bible but we are on the wrong side of the cross, we have yet to meet Jesus on His cross.
2 Corinthians 5:17 If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.
When a heathen believes, they exercise their faith and they accept Jesus as their Savior, now they are new creatures in the Bible. This new person in Christ is someone who has never existed before, we are babies that must learn and grow into the image of God’s dear Son. After we are baptized into the Holy Ghost then He begins to write our chapter for the book of Acts. The book of Acts was never completed, it is still being recorded with what we do with the Holy Spirit. We began our place in the Bible as spirits from the Father, then we were born into human bodies but spiritually dead. After sometime we were told the truth and were born again, we reconnected with the one who authorized our existence. Jesus delivered us from the powers of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. We are on the blessing side of the Bible, the place where we have fellowship with Jesus forever.

I bring the Lord’s tithe in the storehouse,
this is where I’m being fed.
Now bless the seed I sow,
multiply the seed that I give.
I will have no lack in my life,
because you rebuke the seed eaters for me.
Thank You Lord for my storehouse,
and thank you for a place to sow.
Bless my storehouse with provision,
and bless our house with the people that belong here.
