This may shock some people but the truth is, God wants to talk with His children constantly. I know a lot of people who are wiling to converse, but they don’t know how to get a conversation started. How do you reach the place where you and God begin to have an ongoing conversation?
Psalms 9:1 I will praise You O Lord with my whole heart. I will sing praise to Your Name.
David created intimacy by praising his way to the presence of God. He was the shepherd of his father’s sheep and while he tended to the sheep he spent the day praising the Lord. He was in the cool of the day everyday. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people. David got to know the Lord so well he testified of Him in all his psalms.
Sincere heartfelt praise develops intimacy.
The first step in having a conversation with the Lord is praise and it will always be that way. Once intimacy is established we can converse with God at anytime. We cannot remain a stranger to God and expect to just have Him speak to us whenever. God is not our servant, we are the ones indebted to Him. We are His servants, His sheep. Do we come when he calls our name or do we stay in our place?
John 4:23 The hour has come when true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
Is God worthy of all our praise? Has He given us sufficient cause to worship Him? God is not some mystical being out of the range of man’s ability to make contact. Jesus was God manifested in the flesh. If we see Jesus we see the Father. Men spoke with God, the Son and the Son spoke to them.
John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth is come, He will not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He will hear, that shall He speak.
God the Holy Ghost was sent from Heaven to lead God’s people and to speak to them. Just as two men would converse so will two spirits converse. God the Holy Spirit talks to our spirit and our natural ears can listen in on the conversation. Who will the Holy Ghost speak to? All the true worshippers. A true worshipper worships in spirit and in truth. Let me show you how to do this. When you set out to praise the Lord, speak from your heart. In your own words tell the Lord what you think of Him and how grateful you are. Don’t read off a paper that is someone else’s revelation of praise. God wants to hear what you think and what you believe.
He wants to share back and forth, He wants an intimate conversation. I ask Him to teach me something and then I tell Him what I think. Most of the time He corrects me and I love how He does it. Some of my ideas are pretty lame, but He will never make me feel stupid. God has never spoken anything to me that made me wish I would have kept my mouth shut. Father knows best.
