How many times have you been vexed by the devil and felt like it was just you and him? Of course he filled your mind with lies like God doesn’t care about you because you are not tithing. Let me give you some good news, the devil can never represent the thoughts of God. But I know what God thinks because His thoughts are all recorded in a book called the Bible.
Mathew 28:20 I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
Whether we “feel” Him or not, His Word and promise never changes. He is with us. The devil is a flesh devil, he operates within the parameter of the five senses. He does his best to coax us into the limits of our flesh, thereby making no space for God the Spirit.
2 Timothy 1:6 Stir up the gift of God, which is within you by the laying on of hands.
The key to our emancipation is “stirring” ourselves up not once or twice, but every time the devil comes to disrupt our lives. How do we stir ourselves up? Tap into your partnership with the Holy Ghost and together put everything into perspective. The Holy Spirit will tell you that you are a child of God, He loves you and He will never leave you nor forsake you. He will tell you what God says about your situation and that you have all the power. When the Holy Ghost gets through with you, you will rise up and go after that tormenting devil. Why? Because you know where God is, where you are and where you send the devil.
Isaiah 59:19 When the enemy shall come in, like
a flood the Spirit of the Lord shall put him to flight.
The devil must be taught that messing with God’s children will always be a losing proposition. But some Christians don’t know their authority and the devil has his way with them. Are you known in hell? Does the devil know you by your victories? I testify to you, the devil knows me and he knows I know how to use my weapons of warfare. But he is too dumb to give up so he uses people around me to do his bidding. The devil has nothing to lose, the only way to make him pay is to stop him from a successful temptation. What can we possibly do to a man on death row? The devil is doomed and his ministry is to create as much misery and chaos as he can before he is locked away forever.
Romans 8:32 In all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ that loves us.
What does it mean to be more than conquerors? It means that not only do you see the devil defeated, but you gain something from his storehouse of stolen goods. Every time an enemy attacked Israel, they were defeated and the land in Israel got bigger. We are a blessed people, we are empowered to prosper. Remember this: fear attracts the devil, faith attracts God. Use your faith. When you use your faith and when you believe the Word, God will draw nigh to you and together you will overcome the world. Oh God, where art Thou? He is just a prayer, a Psalm, or a praise away and that’s in your heart.
There is no doubt that we are in perilous times, the amplified Bible says times hard to deal with. The last days did not start in our life time, they began on the day of Pentecost. They have grown worse and worse with every passing year and the devil is not done yet. The devil is the minister of misery and he is quite good at his temporary self assigned duty. The devil cheers as his subjects live further and further from God, demonstrating a blatant disregard for all things God. I hear people all the time calling for Jesus to come and get us out of this sin laden world.
Mathew 24:14 The Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations: and then shall the end come.
Jesus is not coming back because the world is in chaos, He will come for us after the Christians proclaim His Word over the whole world. Reinhard Bonnke was able to preach to over seventy-nine million people in his life time, because men like Kenneth Copeland sowed millions of dollars into his ministry. Missionaries and Evangelists are flying all over the world preaching the Gospel, some on their very own air planes. They are desperately working to enlist the world and what do they get? Criticism from other brethren. God gave man air planes to go into all the world, he gave man television to record Gospel meetings and He gave us the internet to give the world access to His Word twenty-four seven. Right on cue the devil found a slew of men who would misuse these gifts for ungodly gain.
John 17:15 I pray not that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil.
Jesus did not run from the devil, He went toe to toe with him and totally defeated him. Now He prays to the Father to leave us in this chaotic world and have dominion over the devil He whipped. The devil can introduce a lot of garbage into our lives, but the only way he can win is if we turn away from our Lord and go back. He can bring illness, lack and even rejection from the brethren but none of these are a victory for the evil one. When a believer stays true to Jesus until the day he takes his last breath, he has the victory Jesus died to give him. Every time a believer goes to heaven the devil is credited with the failure to impart his evil ways.
1 John 5:4 Whosoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
Faith is simply believing God’s Word to the degree that you order your life to it. We overcome the world with our faith, so the devil’s number one target is our faith in God. If we hold fast to our faith like Job did we cannot be defeated. We are not of this world so we are not participants of the chaos, it is not our portion. Before Jesus left He gave us His peace, not as the world gives. Peace is not the absence of problems, it is the constant continual presence of God. We are not part of this world, we are not part of the chaos.
How long do Christians hold fast to their place in the Body? Some will last days and some will endure their whole life. Why do some folks go back and walk no more with their Lord? There are a myriad of reasons, but there is one major deal breaker that is at the root of the problem.
Hebrews 5:14 Milk is for babies, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in discerning good and evil.
A lot of people don’t stay with Jesus long enough to know His ways. Despite the fact that they are born-again Christians, the devil never ceases in his endeavor to rule over their lives. Most Christians cannot comprehend that the devil is determined to undermine their connection with Jesus! The devil is behind the scenes manipulating people and circumstances in an attempt to pull you away from your Savior. If you have not spent enough quality time in God’s Word, you will not be qualified to discern the wiles of the devil. You are so important the devil wants you to join him in the pit and God wants you to join Him in His kingdom. Selah.
The devil is a master of manipulation, he can draw men after himself and they don’t even know who they are following. If you ever come under demonic influence, you will begin to think of yourself more highly than you ought. The devil has no idea what love and compassion are. He is convinced that he is the most important being in all creation. The devil thinks he has power because he can kill, destroy and steal. He can kill but he does not possess every soul, there are some who have discerned him and they will give him no place.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
When you hear God’s Word and obey it, you are submitting yourself to God. We cannot resist the devil successfully until we first submit to our Lord. God through His Word puts everything in perspective, it’s His Word that enables us to discern between good and evil. At one time most of the Bible believing churches were nearly full, but good people did not discern who was leading them away from their Body.
All backsliders have an out-of-body experience.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 It will come to pass, if you will hearken diligently unto the Lord, that all those blessings will come on you.
How can God bless someone who is not where He told them to dwell? The key to having the blessings is our willingness to obey whatsoever He tells us to do. According to spiritual law, we become the servant of whom we obey, that can be God or the god of this world. It is unethical to minister to another man’s servant, if a man serves the devil God cannot bless his soul. The devil is definitely unethical, he is always pursuing the servants of the most high God. The devil has no rule book, no law to abide by, he will do whatever he can get away with. Because the devil has no laws to adhere to, he has no power. Keeping God’s laws is what empowers us with His blessings. Obedience is what makes us free. Doing whatever you please is not freedom, it’s rebellion and you are what the devil is seeking.
Joel 2: 28 ...your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.
God created man with the ability to see reality within himself. Several times in the Bible we read accounts of God appearing to men in dreams and visions. God wants us to envision within ourselves what He has planned and can do for us. Before He led the nation of Israel out of Egypt, He told them they were going to a land flowing with milk and honey. He wanted His people to forget all of their years in bondage and focus on a new land and a new life.
God got His people out of Egypt, but He could not get Egypt out of His people.
When Israel came out of Egypt, it was by the way of a miracle. The entire event from beginning to end was to be one continual miracle. When it came time for the miraculous, the people could only remember their life in Egypt. God used ten evil plagues to persuade Egypt and not one of them touched Israel. After the people left healed and wealthy, He split the red sea and drowned the Egyptians. Not only was God set on protecting His people, but He wanted them to see what their God could and would do for them.
Psalm 103:3-4 God forgives all your sins, heals all your disease and redeems your life from destruction.
God had His will recorded in the Bible so we could read it, know it and then begin to meditate on it. Meditate means to imagine or to ponder something recorded. Why does our Lord want us to meditate His Word? If we will consider His Word long enough, we will begin to see Him perform it within ourselves. If you have ever heard a coach try to inspire his team before a game, you will see him trying to get his players to see themselves as winners. He will not talk about the strength of the opponent nor their record.
Proverbs 23:7 For as a man thinks in his heart so is he.
Whatsoever a man gives himself to, that’s what he will think on and become. Some folks in their ignorance follow after failures and they inevitably make the same foolish errors. The first thing God wants us to see is ourselves washed in His blood and totally sinless. If He can get us to see ourselves clothed in His righteousness, then we can easily see everything else He has made us to be. He heals all of our disease, so we should see ourselves sound and whole. As a man thinketh, as a man dreams, so shall he become what he envisions.
God created man to see within himself what he desires, this can be good or bad. He tells us throughout His Word to consider Him. Take notice of what He can do, has done and will do.
We will see it before we have it.
O say, can you see what the Lord has done for you? When I see Jesus healing the sick in His ministry, I picture Him doing the same for me. He puts the image on the inside of us and He has made the way to walk in that image.
We are instructed by the Lord to put on His armor because the devil has come to kill, destroy and steal. God’s armor consists of the obvious; a breastplate, shoes, a shield, a helmet and a sword. Let’s focus on the sword and pursue some understanding. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God and this Sword represents all of the prayers God has made available to His saints. The devil throws fiery darts which are various temptations. We overcome these temptations with the shield of faith. When we take up the Sword of the Spirit, the devil has no defense against such a force.
Ephesians 6:17-18 Take the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
Faith created the devil and faith will control him. When Jesus defeated the devil He made him subject to His Word. The Word of God issued, with the Name of Jesus, is the only thing the devil must adhere to. The devil has no choice, he must obey God’s Word. We on the other hand can ignore it if we choose. This is what makes faith so special, men of their own free will choose to obey God. The devil has to obey God, we choose to.
James 5:16 The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in it’s working).
We may enter our closet kneeling down and with great reverence, quietly praying the Word of God, but in the spirit realm God gives commands and the angels are put on assignment for our sake. The natural course we were walking on is cancelled and a supernatural course is set before us. The devil loses his grip on us and his plans of torment get cancelled and turned off. Our quiet, unassuming prayers, reverberate across the heavens. Angels move and devils quake in their failed effort.
Jeremiah 1:12 Thus saith the Lord: I will hasten My Word to perform it.
The word hasten means sleepless, God performing His Word is His priority. If I got this thing right, we take the Word of God praying and then we enter into His rest. Our part is to pray the Word and His part is to bring it to pass. Can you see how foolish it would be to enter into warfare and not have on the armor of God? Every piece of God’s armor is special and each serve a specific purpose, but it all works together to make one suit.
1 John 4:4 Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
The devil desperately wants to enter our lives but if we are full of the Spirit he has no place, no room. If we wear God’s armor, the devil has no chance of overcoming us. He has no prayer. Don’t just stand there and let him beat on you. Take the Word of God, which is the Sword of the Spirit, and dice him like you would an onion. Let the Word convince you that we have the upper hand, God has declared us to be more than conquerors. We don’t just defeat the devil but we keep everything he stole and gain more besides, because the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Let’s just be honest with ourselves and our Lord, often times we feel as if God does not hear our prayers or that He just says “no” for no good reason! What is really going on?
Ephesians 6:17-18 Take the Word of God praying with all prayers.
Galatians 5:6 Faith works by love.
If we take the Word of God and pray it out in love, God hears our petition. Will He ever tell us no? How can He deny our prayer that is according to His will? He would have to deny Himself. Sometimes what we request in prayer takes time because other people are involved and they have the freedom to choose. We know that according to the Bible, God wants all men to know the truth and be saved. Does this mean all men will be saved? No, it does not. Many will go to hell completely against God’s will. Despite knowing this, the Lord wants His people to make intercession for all men. We praise God and rejoice when a sinner comes to the Lord, but we continue praying for those who have yet to make a decision.
Galatians 6:9 Let us not be weary(weak) in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
What is due season? It is an appointed time set by God. We want an instant answer to our prayers, but God picks the time and He seems to always be slow. This may sound funny, but I have prayed over myself for a healing and then stood for days awaiting the manifestation of my prayer. Days later it came and I said to myself, “Oh, that didn’t take long”. Some prayers require a longer waiting period than others and I’m not sure why God makes us wait. I do know this one thing, if we don’t take the Word of God praying, due season will not come.
1Peter 5:8-9 Be vigilant because the devil is seeking whom he may devour. Resist him with your faith knowing that he is over coming your brothers in the world.
Your prayers are far more successful than you realize, you’re still here prospering while other believers are being devoured. God is hearing and answering our prayers, that’s why we are still here and growing stronger every day. The devil never gives up, he has nothing better to do than to kill, destroy and steal. The prayers we hold fast to are protecting us. We take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, when we pray. Our prayers are more than nice flowing words, they are the devil’s worst day. Want to really mess with the devil? Pray in tongues! He doesn’t know what you’re saying, he just knows you are using your faith.
Hebrews 1:3 Jesus is upholding the whole world by the power of His Word.
Can you better understand why we are instructed to take the Word of God praying? We pray the Word Jesus uses to uphold everything and He performs His Word. If you expect to succeed in life you must have an ongoing prayer life.
Seven days without prayer makes us weak.
Surely by now you have come to know some people that you cannot carry on an adult conversation with. Their thoughts and ideas are not rational, they make absolutely no sense. They remind me of an old cliché.
It’s better to keep your mouth shut and let them think you’re an idiot than to open your mouth and erase all doubt.
The odd thing about all of this is that these people otherwise are quite smart and some of them are highly educated. What is the root of the problem? Why can’t we communicate with some of these folks?
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness.
People can be profoundly affected by the devil and not be possessed. The devil cannot read our minds, but he can and does offer us his thoughts and concepts. The Word of God instructs us to cast these “imaginations” down because they do not belong to a sound mind. The devil’s thoughts always appear just and productive but he doesn’t have any measure of love within him. People who are directly influenced by the devil are very difficult to persuade of any truth.
John 8:43,45 Why do you not understand My Words? You cannot even hear Me. And because I tell you the truth, you believe Me not.
Jesus was speaking to the most religious people of the time, the Jews. Even when He spoke in parables, they could not relate to what He was saying but they could easily hear the devil. The devil is very easy to hear because he speaks the most. Jesus speaks when He needs to and He can speak volumes with very few words. Our Lord can impart one word to us and that word can change our lives forever. Jesus was full of wisdom and love. He spoke whatsoever the Father gave Him to say. Despite His supernatural power, He could not persuade men to embrace the truth. Why? Because He gave each man the freedom to choose the life he desired for himself. God has set before every man blessing or curse, life or death. He then encourages every one to choose life.
2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instruct those that oppose themselves; if God perhaps will forgive them when they acknowledge the truth.
When we confront people who are under the influence of demonic powers, we have only one recourse. We must gently speak the truth just as Jesus did, we can’t make them accept it but we can certainly offer it. The truth is their only hope, the only way for freedom. Greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world. Many are content to be ruled by the lesser power. Blessed is the man that abides in the truth but woe to the man who chooses to never accept what God offers. God is merciful and gentle because He knows man must contend with the devil but mercy cannot save him if he will not cooperate with God. We must tolerate all men but not their pet devils. It’s like people who have cats, love the people dislike the cats.
Some folks have this idea that the devil is a red man with horns and a pitch fork. Some have been led to believe the devil is equal to God in power and they respect that. The Bible which is our source of truth, says he is most subtle. The word subtle means cunning or crafty. He is pretty clever when it comes to deceiving the feeble minded. Allow me to expose one of the devil’s greatest schemes.
Mathew 28:19 Go into all the world and make disciples of all men, baptize them in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The last thing Jesus said to the church before He returned to heaven was go all over the world and present the teachings of Christ. The devil heard what Jesus said and immediately he hatched a plan to stop the disciples. The devil knew that in order for the disciples to go into all the world they would need money. Jesus called him a thief for a reason, he began to divert the funds the disciples needed to preach to other worldly accounts. It requires a lot of money to go into all the world and preach the Gospel so the devil began to rob the church of the funds. One of the devil’s tactics is to reassign priorities, man putting himself before God.
Mathew 6:33 Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His way of doing things, and all these things will be added to you.
The devil would have us to spend our lives seeking what we need and then give God any leftover time. What is the conventional wisdom of the average Christian? Work hard all week and give God one hour of your time Sunday. Who do you suppose put the world on its schedule? Let me give you a clue, it is the one who has you so busy working to survive that you have little or no time for God. When you work hard for your pay check you become selective where you spend your money. It is your money and you hate to spend it even on things you must have like a house, a car and food. Every hard working man wants to keep his money as long as he can.
Malachi 3:10-11 Bring all your tithes into the storehouse saith the Lord, and I will open the windows of heaven and pour you out the blessing. And I will rebuke the seed eater for your sakes.
Ten cents of every dollar we earn belongs to the Lord, it is the Lord’s tithe. Statisticians tell us only twelve percent of Christians give God His tithes. If every Christian gave God His tithe, the church could easily send missionaries into all the world. Jesus is not coming back for His church until the Gospel is preached to every man! When Jesus returns for us, the devil will be locked away in the pit of hell. So, he has a very good reason for withholding the funds required to preach the Gospel to all nations. The church wants Jesus to come for them but they are not hastening His return!. The devil is so subtle he can make you believe that God will bless you in your disobedience. God is so merciful He will never tire of feeding us the truth that can make us free. I set before you this day blessing and curse, life and death, choose life that you and your family may prosper.
The Bible says that in order to be saved we must invite Jesus into our heart. How do we know that He is in us? When Jesus comes into your heart your spirit will become aware of Him listening to everything you say. Some would think that He has His ear open for all of our naughty words so He can condemn us, but that is not His purpose. He wants to hear what we would say to Him.
John 14:23 If a man love Me, he will keep My Words: and My Father will love him, and We will make our abode with him.
God does not come into a life and just sit there staring at the wall, He comes for the relationship. God is interested in what we are doing with the new life He gave us. Do you know how to maneuver through the spirit realm or do you need His help?
John 16:13 When the Holy Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak.
No man can know the truth apart from the Holy Spirit. Take special note of this text, it says the Holy Ghost will speak to us whatsoever the Father knows we need to hear. The Holy Spirit does not come and go, He remains with us forever. The Holy Ghost never slumbers or sleeps, He is on call 24-7. How much time will the Spirit give us? God does not put any limits on Himself, we are the ones who limit God’s voice. Some will say I haven’t heard from God for quite awhile! Well, when was the last time God heard from you? Immediately after I was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost I became aware of Him within me. Our conversations on His part were short but to the point., He never once said anything about my potty mouth. I began to connect the dots, if God heard everything I said then He heard every foul word. He did not need to hear my dirty words, so I made the decision to clean up my mouth. I became so keenly aware of His daily presence and I needed to respect Him.
Colossians 1:27 The riches of the mystery is Christ in us the hope of glory (manifestations).
The glory of God is His presence, His power and His goodness. If His glory is present, so is His presence. God is more than a conversation, He is the manifestation of His Word. Christianity is the only religion that worships a living God and whose God speaks to every believer. How deceived must a person have to be in order to worship a dead god or one made of wood?
1 John 5:6 This is He that came by waters and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
When Jesus was baptized, a voice came from heaven proclaiming Him to be the Son of God. When He shed His blood He said it was finished, the last sacrifice under the Abrahamic covenant. The present day ministry of the Holy Spirit is to give to every man willing to receive His testimony and evidence. The best one to reveal God to anyone is God Himself and we have this treasure in earthen vessels.
Before Jesus died on the cross and opened a new and living way, religious folks were under the law. The law gave rules and commandments men were to follow in order to have a degree of spirituality. But the law could do nothing to change the nature of sinful man, under the circumstances it was the best God could do. Over a three day period everything abruptly changed. Jesus could settle the sin issue once and forever and then He would be raised from the dead to enforce His Word.
Hebrews 8:6 But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for He is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.
The covenant God made with Abram was between God and a man, the new one is between God and Jesus. So, everything contained in the Old Testament is brought to Calvary and filtered through the cross. Some things came to an end such as eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. Some things were changed, such as circumcision. We don’t circumcise our flesh, we make covenant in our heart. Furthermore, some things ended such as animal blood for atonement of sin. The blood of Jesus blots out all sin and changes our nature, which removes us from any bonds with the devil.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 If you will hearken unto the voice of the Lord, all of these blessings will come upon you and overtake you.
This blessing was spoken over men who were under the law. What happened to this promise when it was run through Calvary’s filter? Can men now have the blessings apart from obedience? Has the offer of the blessings expired? We are not under the law, we are under grace. How does this affect the blessings? Grace has been imparted to the new creature to empower him to obey and be faithful to his new nature. The promises remain but the means by which we take hold of them now becomes much easier. If you think it’s hard living under grace, go back and try to live with the devil telling you what to do!
Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in Himself.
The devil came to the cross of Calvary rejoicing that he killed the Son of God. For three days hell celebrated the incarceration of Jesus. But on the third day a light brighter than hell came and emancipated Jesus. He was raised from the dead by the glory of God. The devil crawled away from Calvary totally defeated and stripped of all the power he took from Adam. The only working part of the devil is his mouth, he can talk a good game but he can’t play. The purpose of a filter is to screen out contaminates and the devil didn’t make it, his mangled nonexistent body is not in our realm. The old wiped out devil must sit on the sidelines and hear us sing praises to our Lord. If he gives us too much grief we can make him join us in praising our Lord.
All my tithes belong to the Lord, no matter my financial condition.
My obedience brings His promise, He opens the windows of Heaven.
More blessings than I can store,I will not be deceived.
The devil is a thief and a tight wad,I will have none of his poverty.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
