The world is enveloped in gross darkness, Jesus could stand right in front of them and they wouldn’t know Him. They hear snippets of God and His supernatural power but they understand nothing. “I guess if God wants me in heaven, He will put me there”! I understand the ignorance of people because I had a degree in spiritual stupidity. Religion presented a God to me that they didn’t even understand, they made Him up as they went along. I don’t fault my spiritual leaders, they just taught me what they were taught. The Apostle Paul established a church in the city of Corinth and he was very cautious of what he told them.
1 Corinthians 2:4 My message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul knew that if he would make Jesus the center of attention, the Holy Ghost would confirm the Word. Let me tell you a little secret, it is not our responsibility to convince the world of Christ, it is the ministry of the Holy Spirit. No man can say Jesus is his Lord but by the Holy Spirit. Our part is to present Jesus exactly as He is, if permitted God will do the rest. Some of the things people say about God need to be rejected but not the truth. One day I complained to the Lord, “How can people ever know the truth on account of all the false doctrine circulating?” The Lord responded to me with this: If a man wants to know the truth I will show him just like I did for you!
Luke 4:14 Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about.
Jesus is alive and He is still doing miracles so His fame (reputation) ought to be growing. Jesus has commissioned His body to complete His ministry and even do greater works than Him using His Name. The church at large has never been taught of the supernatural power of God. Jesus healed the people and then He was able to teach them. He could then present His Father to them. If a man is touched by the power of God but is not told who healed him, who will he glorify? The devil puts hell in people’s lives and then uses religion to reveal God as the culprit. The devil needs to take the blame for what he does and God should take the blame for what He does. I am a born-again Christian, I am going to heaven and I blame God for His mercy and love.
Philippians 3:7 What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
How do you present someone to anyone if you don’t know them? The better you know your Lord Jesus, the more convincing you will be when you share Him with someone. Some men think God is too good to be true but if they hear enough of Him they will believe. The world needs to see what He did in us without pretense, we don’t need to embellish Jesus. He is perfect just the way He is.
The word grace does not have just one definition, we must study the context in which it appears. The word grace appears many times in the Old Testament, but it has nothing to do with the grace of the New Testament.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
One of the manifestations of grace in the New Testament is God’s supernatural power that causes a sinner to be born-again in righteousness. This is something only God can do. We can’t fully comprehend it but we can experience it.
2 Corinthians 12:9 God said to Paul: My grace is all you need, My strength and power is made complete in your time of weakness.
When God gave Paul His grace, Paul was empowered to endure every assault of the devil. The devil coerced the Jews to beat Paul with thirty-nine stripes five times. The tormentor beat men thirty-nine times because forty would kill them. God gave Paul His grace, the supernatural power to endure all the near death beatings. God’s grace will manifest in many different ways and it will always involve God’s supernatural power.
Genesis 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
In the old covenant there was no grace for salvation because no one was saved and no one went to heaven. Grace in the Old Testament had a totally different meaning but it still involved the supernatural power of God. Grace in the old covenant could be defined with one word, favor. Now grace in the New Testament has many applications but it always involves divine favor.
Psalm 5:12 For you, Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor will You crown him as with a body shield.
In the Old Testament when a man kept the law it was accounted for him as righteousness. Consequently there was not a whole lot of favor spent on the people. In the New Testament faith in Jesus makes a man righteous, so in our dispensation of grace believers will all the more experience the favor of God. In the old covenant righteousness was accounted to those who obeyed the law. In the new covenant righteousness is imparted to those who obey Jesus and His Word. It is quite easy to obey Jesus because His gift of grace has changed our very nature.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus (the man) increased in wisdom (revelation) and age, and in favor with God and man.
As you receive revelation you will grow in spiritual maturity and favor with God and men. At first mention I had some favor in my life, but now I see God’s favor every day. When you recognize the favor of God in your life, it is very important to immediately give God the glory. Giving God the glory will ensure that you are not looking for good luck!
Christmas can mean a lot of different things to a lot of people. If the Christmas season is properly viewed, one can expect a time of joy and an impartation of hope. There are some folks who can’t seem to catch the spirit of Christmas. Some have had bad experiences and others outgrew the fun of gathering. If you’re one of those who can find no good reason for Christmas, go find some kids and watch them light up with joy.
I loved Christmas as a young boy but I joined the Navy just after graduation. I no longer had access to the family traditions I came to love. It is very difficult to have a Christmas on a ship full of scrooges. You spend a lot of time with a lot of men who stand around feeling sorry for themselves. My tour of duty ended in the month of October, so my next Christmas with family was only two months away. Christmas with family was much better but I lost something I once craved.
Luke 6:38 Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure and pressed down…
I had yet to meet Jesus, I knew a little about Him but never knew Him. I didn’t know this Scripture in Luke’s Gospel. I thought to myself if I can’t have a joyful Christmas like I once had, then I would help others have a worth while time. I bought gifts for the children in my family and for some kids who had no father. As a young boy I demanded presents but now I was giving to other people. Making good things happen for others is really what Christmas is all about. Later I learned you can do this year round and keep the Christmas spirit alive and functioning.
I know people who were abused growing up and they never had anything. In order to protect themselves they became self centered and selfish. My heart goes out to these folks because Christmas is a real struggle for them. My mother loved all six of her children and she would go in debt to give each one of us a Christmas to remember. I think my mother’s desire to bless others has rubbed off on me, I hope I can help people one way or another to enjoy Christmas.
John 3:16 God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son.
God is not a respector of persons, He loves every one in the world no matter how naughty they are. When love gives a gift it is always unconditional, there are no strings attached. God is love and He wants to give us something we cannot give ourselves. It is our choice to accept His love or shun it, no one in their right mind would ever reject the gift of salvation. Currently there are a lot of people who are not in their right mind and they really need the Christmas spirit. God wants to give the best gift a man could possibly receive to every one. If you have the gift of life, Christmas time is a good opportunity to let the Holy Child Jesus stir it up. The one thing that maintains the joy of a Christian is hope and this is the season for renewing our gift.
By now you know that man is a triune being, man is three distinct functioning parts. Man is a spirit, he possesses a soul which is his mind, will and emotions, and he lives in a body. The spirit is the life source of any man. The spirit will live without a body but a body cannot live without the spirit. Before a man is born-again he makes no distinction between the soul and the spirit, he thinks they are one and the same. God can and does influence every spirit of men, whether they be born-again or not. Before I accepted Jesus as my Savior, He gave me vivid dreams of burning in hell. The devil is a liar, he would never try to scare anyone away from his abode.
Romans 8:5 They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the spirit, the things of the spirit.
When the Bible refers to the flesh, it is talking about the soul(mind) and the body. The spirit of a man lives in its own little world, it is capable of communing with God but it must be born-again first. God is a Spirit and He communes with spirits, the devil is a spirit but he got kicked out of the spirit realm. The devil is capable at injecting thoughts and evil concepts into the souls of men. Our Bible tells us to cast down(out) imaginations that are contrary to God’s will. Our soul and body are programmed by nature to do what “feels” good. The soul and body can feel good about robbing something of value from another person, even a family member.
The reborn spirit of a man by nature wants to follow God based on His Word. The man has a problem, his spirit wants the things of God but his soul and body want the things of the world. All of us were sinners before the new birth and we all know how hard it is to break the lustful habits of our flesh. Some Christians never succeed. Some endure for a season and some surrender to their Heavenly Father. If the flesh is given the headship, it will never allow the person the opportunity to draw near to God. If the spirit is allowed to lead, the body will resist the need to fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
Acts 20:28 Take heed that you feed the church of God, which He has purchased with His own blood.
The world has taken heed to feed the flesh of all men. God has raised up men to feed the spirit of man. Which ever one is fed the most will be the strongest, the stronger will be the predominant. Every man makes the decision in his mind(soul) of what manner of man he will be. Yes, we do have evil forces that work against us but God gives us an adequate measure of grace to resist the temptations. Not all men will accept this grace, they are content to be sinners hoping one day to “get right” before it is too late.
You do not build up the spirit once and think you have all you need. We must continually be edified because the devil never gives up on pulling our flesh into his camp. Arnold Schwarzenegger won Mr. Universe in 1968. Have you seen his body since he stopped working out? If we stop feeding our spirit, he will become a “stick man”.
We have been well taught concerning the power of God that heals us. Recently the Lord brought something to my attention and maybe you can learn what I learned if you need to. Without thinking I was lording my good health over those who were infected with covid or living in fear of contracting it. In a word, I was being foolish and ungodly! In the first place I owe all of my good health to Jesus, I can do nothing about plagues on my own. I have no business judging anyone or how they believe, my business is to pray for all men. I really appreciate God rebuking me and putting me in my place, which is in His grace.
1 Peter 5:5 God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
Pride is the trademark of the devil, it cost him his identity and his place in heaven. If he can convince a man to maintain his pride, he can successfully cut him off from the grace of God. A humble man knows his limitations, he knows what he can do and when to seek help for all the things he can’t do. Furthermore, he knows where to assign the credit for his success and take responsibility for his weakness. Having no power or ability does not always lead to failure, it means you need someone to help you.
Isaiah 48:11 I will not let My Name be dishonored or let anyone else share the glory that is Mine and Mine alone.
It would be very foolish of us to think God owes us everything He promised. He owes us nothing but love, it is us that owe Him our very lives and daily bread. If you want to cut yourself off from the blessing of a loving God just demonstrate an attitude of superiority. Often times folks wonder why God isn’t blessing them and they have no idea they have an attitude that puts God off. We must pay attention to our motives, the devil is a master at slipping his pernicious ways into our minds.
Psalms 91:10 There shall no evil befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.
We are divinely protected by the sacrifice of our Lord and Master Jesus. Of ourselves we have no might against the flu or covid, we must rely on the love and mercy of God. I don’t know why some believers get sick, but that doesn’t change that Jesus is still their Healer. We have no business judging anyone for any reason, if we judge we will be judged. I have taken no flu for over thirty years but that does not make me special in any way. My Lord has protected me even when I did foolish things, not because I am special but because He is. The Word says the prayer of faith shall save the sick, even the sick can have faith. We are to pray for one another that we may be healed.
Our church walks in a high degree of good health but we must never take God for granted. We should never think we deserve to be blessed more than any other brother or sister. If we have more faith, that’s good, but it does not create an occasion for boasting. I pray every saint of God experience the supernatural power of God and they testify of God’s goodness.
A lot of folks have no idea what they are, who made them, how they are made and why. Evidently it is important to know what we are because God reveals everything in His holy Bible. When we understand our composition, we can begin to understand our nature and why we do the things we do.
Hebrews 12:9 God is the Father of spirits.
Every human being is first and foremost a living spirit, we live in an earthsuit called a body. Your spirit can live without your body but you body cannot live without your spirit. When God created the first man he was created to be an eternal man, but sin changed his nature and composition. Sin brought corruption to the human body and it would become unfit to live in after a period of time. When Adam obeyed satan, he took on the nature of damnation. It would have been nice if God would have destroyed the devil, but God is the Father of spirits and you cannot cause a spirit to cease to exist. The devil will be around for eternity just like us, but he will be locked away in hell in torment.
2 Corinthians 12:2 I was caught up to heaven, whether I was in my body or out, I could not tell.
The appearance of our spirit and our body are indistinguishable. When Paul went to heaven he couldn’t tell if he was in his body or not because he did things he could not do in the flesh. I can tell you unequivocally that Paul was not in his body because his body was corruptible and there is nothing corruptible in heaven. When we die we do not take our bodies with us, they will be resurrected when Jesus comes for His saints.
John 5:29 The dead will come forth, they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
There are folks in hell now in torment and when they think things can’t get any worse, their bodies show up to encompass their spirit. Why do people go to hell? Because they did not choose to be with Jesus in heaven! It is bound in the spirit of every man to seek out it’s Father, some choose to and some just don’t care. If a man would live in heaven for all eternity, all he need do is choose Jesus to be his Savior. God will never take anyone to heaven against their will, everyone in hell does not will to be there but there is no way out now.
You are a human being empowered by an eternal spirit created by God Himself. Not only is it fun but it is exceedingly rewarding to discover your true identity. If you don’t know Jesus you are a child of the devil and you are just like him. The devil is not anyone’s legitimate father, he put himself in that position through deception. He could not have a family of his own so he kidnapped God’s family and abuses them every day. No matter how well you have emulated your father the devil, God wants you back in His family. No man’s life begins until he has invited Jesus to come be a part of it. You are so important to God that He sent His Son to die for you in order to get you free to choose life.
I have had a few times in my life where I didn’t “feel” like my prayers were making any difference and I was right, I was praying amiss.
James 4:3 You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts.
There was nothing wrong with my prayers, the problem was my motives. One day a woman came to us and asked for prayer for her business, she wanted us to pray all the other businesses would fold up. If we would have agreed with her we would have prayed amiss. God wants us to operate like He does, He is upholding all things with the power of His Word. Prayer is our lifeline to the power of God. We can’t afford to misuse it. We cannot pray that God bend the will of people so they will give us things they have that we want. Praying is a pretty simple process but getting our heart right requires diligence.
2 Timothy 2:21 If a man will cleanse his heart, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and equipped for the Master’s use and prepared unto every good work.
Our heart is like a battery that is fully charged, but if our terminals are corroded the power will be impeded. Repentance is the cleaning process that restores the flow of our power. Some folks are not willing to take responsibility for their trespass, they just blame God because prayer doesn’t work. Some folks pray out of tradition, they have little expectation that things will change.
Luke 18:1 Jesus spoke a parable unto the people to this conclusion, that man ought always to pray and not turn coward and give up.
We must understand something, God does not invite Himself into our lives. Praying is always God’s invitation into our lives, if we don’t pray He has no place in our lives! I marvel at some folks who claim God has nothing to do with them and the whole time they have nothing to do with Him. Men ought always to pray, it is men who start the conversation, not God. Many times I have had God come talk to me and tell me what I should be praying for. If He knows what I need why does He require me to ask for it before He releases it? Asking God for things requires faith and without faith it is impossible to please Him.
Mark 11:24 What things soever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them.
Jesus gives us the blue print for a successful life. We desire, we pray, we believe and then we receive. There is one more small but very important thing we must give attention to. With thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. We must never go before our Lord with a hand full of nothing and a mouth full of “give me”. So now you have been well coached, go out, pray and let the power flow. The very end of every prayer project is the testimony. How did God answer your prayer and how many people were affected by it?
God puts every person in His body where it pleases Him. A believer could be in a church where they are happy and content, it is where He wants you, whether a person be in their right place or not they will know deep in their heart.
Genesis 3:9 The Lord called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou.
Now God knew exactly where Adam was but He wanted Adam to take responsibility for what he had done. Adam disobeyed God and became the servant of the devil. He was no longer in the place where God put him. What did Adam do? He blamed God for giving him a wife that ate from the tree and then gave him to eat. One does not have to go far to get out of God’s will.
1 Kings 17:3-4 Go and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, you shall drink the water and I have commanded the birds to feed you.
During a time of drought God sent Elijah to the brook Cherith where he would have food and water. Now what do you suppose would have happened if Elijah had chosen a different location? God minsters to those in His will, not to those who go their own way. I don’t know what would have happened to Elijah but I do know this, the testimony of his life would have been far different. Men work with our rebellion, God works with our obedience. Where art thou? Are you where God can find you, where He can bless you and protect you? Do you know where you are? Is God where you are or is He far off?
John 6:66 From that time many (a large number) of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him.
Why did these chosen men abandon Jesus? They did not agree with His doctrine! Let me let you in on a little secret, when I was a baby believer I didn’t always agree with God’s Word. Want to know why? Because I didn’t understand it. I have found since then that if I will stay with the Word long enough God will cause me to understand. Is God hard to understand? Is He complicated? No! His Words are Spirit and so they must be spiritually discerned or understood. God is never the problem, we are.
James 4:8 Move your heart closer to God, and He will come even closer to you. But make sure you cleanse your life, you sinners, and keep your heart pure and stop doubting.
The conventional wisdom appears to be like this, when things become difficult we move away from God. The Name of the Lord is a strong tower and the righteous run into it. The devil will applaud whenever you run from God, and he will cry when you run to God. You should never be more than just a prayer away from the Lord. I don’t want to go hunting for Jesus when I need Him, so I stay close at all times. It is not God’s responsibility to chase us down, it’s our decision how close we will be to Him. Where art thou? Do you know where you are? Do you know where God is? Draw nigh to Him and stay there.
When unlearned people hear that our Lord is a God of vengeance they begin to have an unwarranted fear of Him. They “think” God is “out to get them” every time they mess up or think they have messed up. Some preachers aren’t helpful when they say “God is punishing you!”
Romans 12:19 Avenge not yourselves, leave that to God, for it is written, vengeance is Mine; I will repay says the Lord.
God’s vengeance is His promise to judge all sin, it is not revenge because revenge is retaliation. The wages of sin is death, when God judges our sins He gives us an opportunity to deal with them. God judged sin before one was ever committed. He told Adam that in the day you eat of the fruit you shall surely die. Disobedience is sin, but the antidote is repentance. Repentance is like a magic eraser, it makes sin disappear and never return again. Vengeance is simply God being true to His Word, but He would much rather forgive if asked to.
Luke 23:24 Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
They crucified an innocent man, if anyone had the right to call for vengeance it was Jesus. The men who murdered Jesus will never be judged for what they did. God does not kill His enemies, He converts them. He is not looking forward to judgement day because on that day He will have to turn men away from eternal life. Can you imagine, He died and went to hell and back in order to secure a place for all men in Heaven. For whatever reason, a lot of folks will not invite Jesus into their lives. God has no choice but to do what He said He would do. His mercy has limits.
Hebrews 10:30 We know what the Lord said, vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay says the Lord, the Lord shall judge the people.
We are not qualified to judge others because we didn’t die for them, if we judge we in turn will be judged. We could be the most perfect being God ever created but once we judge, we are no better than the one we judge. If we meddle with sin, would we not want all the mercy God has? We can judge others as long as we hold ourselves to the same standard, but that never happens.
1 Corinthians 11:31-32 If we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. When we are judged, we are scolded of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
God’s present day judgement, His vengeance, is the best thing that could happen to us. God’s motive for judgement is love, He does not want to have to execute vengeance on anyone. When our Heavenly Father chastises us, He is warning us that our choices are putting our lives in jeopardy. He must judge bad behavior but He takes no pleasure in it. If we love the Lord we will honor Him with our obedience and we will never know His vengeance.
Jesus gave all men His Word (will) and so all men have become responsible for what He says. We will be judged in this life and the next with what we do or don’t do with His Word.
John 1:4-5 In Jesus was life; and His life was the light of men. The light shined in darkness; and darkness comprehended it not.
God’s Word comes from His Spirit, it is eternal, unchanging and some have no desire for it. When a man declines to accept the Word of God, who does he think he is coming against? The Word of God can be accepted only one way. A man must choose to have it, it cannot be forced onto anyone. Men in darkness (ignorance) cannot comprehend the light because they don’t care anything about it.
2 Timothy 2:25 Humbly instruct those that oppose themselves; perhaps God will forgive them if they will acknowledge the truth.
Pride is the product of a fallen world. If a man has enough of it he will be his greatest enemy. Men are very resourceful and they can do a lot with their ingenuity, but they cannot deliver themselves from the bonds of this world. When a man opposes himself, it is because he refuses to accept the truth of God’s holy light. God resists the proud but He gives grace (power) to the humble. Light is revealed knowledge and every man is responsible for the light that he has.
Mathew 26:26 Jesus took the bread and said, this is My body broken for you. Then Judas betrayed Him.
Judas was a Jew and he knew the commandments thou shalt not steal and thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods. His lust for money was so strong he would betray the Son of God for thirty pieces of silver. Evidently Judas figured they couldn’t harm Jesus and so when the soldiers began to beat Him he knew just how wrong he was. Judas returned the money and went out to hang himself. Jesus said it would have been better if he had never been born.
1 Corinthians 11:27 Whosoever will eat the bread and drink the cup of the Lord unworthily, will be guilty
of the body and blood of the Lord.
Judas ate the last supper, the Passover meal unworthily, he did not honor the sacrifice Jesus was preparing Himself to be. If a man will recognize the light of the Passover meal, he will be forgiven and be guilty of nothing. Jesus became sin for us, He became guilty for all of our transgressions. However, Judas did not get cleansed from his guilt because he did not discern the Lord’s intent. Peter did the same thing! He told Jesus it was wrong for Him to be crucified and suffer and Jesus said to him, “get behind me satan for you savor not the things of God”. Peter realized the error of his way and he repented with bitter tears. Peter opposed himself until he acknowledged the truth, he got himself free of the devil. The worst thing a man can do to himself is agree with the plans and the plots of the devil. If we will assume the responsibility of our lives and invite Jesus to be Lord we will forever be free.
I believe in God and His Son Jesus, therefore, I am blessed.
God will give me many goods, because I will always put Him first.
I know the blessings of my Lord, I do not labor for them.
God blesses me every day
because I obey Him every day.
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this!
