One of the greatest gifts God gave to His people is hope. Hope is not just a passive word. By definition hope is intense, earnest expectation. When you have hope you expect things to turn to your favor. Men who have no hope will eventually surrender to depression and if they don’t deal with it, it can turn suicidal.
1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity. (love)
Why is love the greatest of the three? Because faith and hope work by love. The devil and the ungodly cannot operate in these gifts because they require love and they have no access to this kind of love. No man can have faith or hope without love. Every word the Lord has spoken will instill hope in every man who believes His Word. Christians ought to be the most hopeful bunch in the world.
Ephesians 2:12 At one time you were without Christ, being alien from the covenant of Israel, having no hope, and without God in the world.
If a person cannot find hope in Christ then he must take hope in what man offers. Men offer hope all the time but they are powerless to fulfill their promise, predicaments beyond their control can easily vanquish all hope.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man that He should lie, if He says it He will do it, if He has spoken He will make it good.
One of the biggest mistakes Christians make is when they compare God to man. It is impossible for God to lie and it is impossible for men to speak the truth every time. Every word God ever spoke is full of hope and yet people are always searching for another source. When God ministers hope He is telling us that there are better things to come.
Hebrews 6:18-19 By two immutable things, the body and blood of Jesus, we have a strong consolation to lay hold of the hope set before us, which hope we have as an anchor of the soul.
When a ship wants to stay in one place for a period of time they will let down their anchor. The anchor is designed to hook into the bottom of the sea and hold the position of the ship. God’s promises are what we anchor our souls to, we do not want to drift away from what God has prepared for us. If we don’t anchor our souls(lives) to something solid we will drift away and perhaps have a shipwreck. I know a lot of good Christians who are adrift, they are at the mercy of the elements.
If we don’t anchor our vessel to the words of Christ the world will take us wherever it wants to take us. The world will take us further than we want to go and keep us there longer than we want to stay. You cannot discourage someone who is full of hope, their faith is in Jesus not circumstances. Do you know the source of all hope? It is a manifestation of the love of God. I wonder sometimes, how many people really know that God loves them. Those who know live in hope every day of their lives.
I like to start a debate among believers by asking them, what is the most important gift. Most of the time they will pick one of the nine gifts of the Spirit, and of course I always answer no to every guess they offer. The most important gift of all is the Holy Spirit Himself, without Him there are no gifts.
1 Corinthians 12:3 No man can say that Jesus is Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
Before Jesus returned to Heaven He told His followers that He would send another comforter, someone who would take His place. Jesus was a man and He could only be in one place at a time. His replacement could be everywhere all at once. The Comforter is the Holy Ghost, our most important gift. If you do not understand the ministry of the Spirit just read how Jesus ministered to His disciples. He revealed the Father’s will to them, He protected them and He took care of their material needs. Despite the promise of another Comforter, most Christians are ignorant of the purpose and ministry of the Holy Spirit. When I was a young Catholic boy the priest slapped me across the face and said “Receive the Holy Spirit”. All I got was a red welt on my cheek!
Acts 2:4 And they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues.
Tongues is the evidence that proves one is filled with the Holy Ghost. Many believers leave everything right there. Tongues is more than evidence, it’s your prayer language and most Christians don’t use it enough. I’ve heard many times that people don’t pray in tongues because they don’t understand what they are saying. That’s true to a degree, but if you and the devil don’t understand what you’re saying, neither one of you can mess it up. The devil has fought tooth and nail to keep the Holy Spirit out of the church and a lot of Christians have helped him. Christianity is all about faith and we pray in tongues by faith, believing that God hears us.
1 Corinthians 14:13 Let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
Often times I will pray in tongues in the morning and later in the day the information I need will just come to me. I wanted to build our church debt free but I didn’t know how, so I prayed in tongues and later I knew what I had to do. God would always direct me to give to another ministry in a building project of their own. Almost everything God tells us to do does not make any sense. Do you want to know why? Because God is a Spirit, not a flesh being. I can hear men in my mind but I can only hear God in my spirit, He always does what He said in His Word He would do.
1 Corinthians 14:4 He that speaks(prays) in an unknown tongue builds himself up.
How does a man get built up by praying in tongues? The Holy Spirit gives us the Word of God that we need to become strong. We don’t always know what to pray for as we ought but the Holy Spirit does and He provides our prayer. It’s kind of like the disciples when they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. The Holy Ghost gives us the perfect prayer every time for every occasion. In order to position yourself in God’s perfect will you must first come to trust Him. You cannot receive from the Lord His riches in glory until you come to trust Him. We develop trust in Him by getting to know Him through His Word.
Eternal redemption is very important to me, it is something I desired all of my life. God makes the rules and we must abide with what He says, He won’t alter it for anyone. When you submit to the laws of God you will always know where you stand. Folks who find God’s laws too restrictive will tend to “invent” loop holes that allow for their flesh to have gratification. A lot of people want God and they want some “worldly pleasure”, so they incorporate the two and call it good. Salvation is very important to me so I invite my Lord to judge me often. If I’m out of His will I want to know now, not when I stand before Him on judgement day.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do not be deceived, all fornicators, homosexuals, adulterers, thieves, drunks and the rebellious will ever obtain the Kingdom of God.
God requires all men to repent of their sins and ask His Son Jesus to be their Savior. Honest men have no problem doing what the Lord expects of them, they know they have sinned and they need a Savior. I personally do not believe that every person who says the sinners prayer is saved! The confession is not enough, we must believe in our hearts. The person who is sincere and believes in their heart will demonstrate this conversion in their life. A person who confesses to be a believer should never have to prove it, their light should be on bright every day. Jesus said men would know us by our fruits, we cannot conceal our true identity for very long.
Titus 1:16 Some profess that they know God; but in works (deeds) they deny Him, being disobedient and unto every good work reprobates.
Repeating a prayer they heard is not enough evidence of redemption, we must become who we confess to be. No one has to prove their Christianity to me, it’s their Heavenly Father that wants proof. We have an overflow of ministers who are telling God’s people they can engage in sin without consequence because of the grace factor. These ministers will be judged for their error and so will those that believe them. We all have an obligation to find the truth for ourselves. Jesus said: See to it that no man deceive you. Jesus knows the truth. He is the truth and He will reveal it to whosoever wants it, but not to those who don’t want it. Jesus said the folks who hold fact to the truth will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God will not be mocked: a man’s harvest in life will depend entirely on what he sows.
Anyone can fool another man but no one will make a fool of God even though they think they found a “loop hole”. To think one can manipulate God has to be the epitome of arrogance. I think a lot of Christians spend way too much time trying to bend God’s mind to their way of thinking. It will never happen, they should surrender their life to Him and accept the life He died to give them. God sent Jesus to save us, the plan of our salvation is His plan, there will never be another.
1 Peter 4:18 If the righteous are barely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear.
God would have all men to be saved but He will not compromise His rules for any man. We must be citizens of honor and respect the Master’s laws and ways. He and He alone has Words of eternal life.
By now you should know that there is a huge difference between the God kind of love and man’s kind of love. God loves unconditionally, man loves based on performance. God’s love is one of the fruits of the Spirit, so it comes by faith. Let us look at God’s love in action when it was not received.
Mark 6:5 Jesus could do not mighty works there. And He marveled because of their unbelief, and He went about teaching.
Jesus was anointed to heal the people and His Father sent Him to Nazareth to pray for the sick and disabled. Look how He dealt with adversity. He didn’t say anything to them about why they failed to receive. He recognized the problem and He addressed it without any kind of confrontation. Love deals with people as they are, it may show them a better way but it will not force itself on anyone. The people loved Jesus because He told them what they could have but He never chided anyone into receiving. Love offers itself and great things but it never nags or manipulates. Most folks are drawn to one who loves just by observation. Love is dedicated to helping but it never forces anything on anyone.
Mathew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can you , being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
God is love and love spoke to these pharisees; it may be difficult for us westerners to understand but Jesus was ministering to these men. They knew that a viper was the name of the devil, Jesus was trying to get them to understand that the devil was using them to oppose the Messiah. But the Jews were hard hearted and no amount of love could convince them of their error. Anything God speaks to us will be from a heart full of love.
The truth has no regard for our feelings.
When a person corrects you it is for your benefit, if a person criticizes you it is for their benefit. The Bible kind of love does not criticize or nag a person to doing the right thing. Bible love draws people to the place of safety and peace, always leaving the decision to the person they love. Love will not make anyone change, it confidently shows people a better way.
John 12:32 If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto Me.
When Jesus was lifted up on the cross He was our High Priest, He would represent sinners before the Father. After His resurrection, all men would know that Jesus died for them because He so loved the world. Unfortunately not all men have received this truth. Those who have received become true worshippers because they have a revelation of the Bible kind of love. Just knowing how much God loves a man can have a profound impact on his life. Love changes people, not criticism.
Romans 5:5 The love of God poured into our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
The Holy Spirit ministers the love of God into the center of our being so we can love like God loves. I think some Christians have resisted this supernatural love! We must focus on what love can do rather than our ego can mess up. When people are nasty and overbearing they do not have the gift of love working in their life. We are all Christians, little Christs, because we have His love wanting to work in us. So let Him work.
What do you do once the prayer of faith is spoken over you? Seems to me like most folks walk away and check to see if they got anything.
Mark 16:18 They shall lay hands on the sick (infirm) and they shall recover.
The word recover in the Greek means to conceive or begin to mend. When hands are laid upon you and the Word of faith is spoken, the healing power of Christ begins to manifest. If you are the recipient of His glorious power, you must cooperate with Him. It’s great to have confidence in the faith of others, but we too have a responsibility to accept the healing power of Jesus. If we believe we have conceived the power of Jesus then we must do something to release our faith.
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it has not works (an act) is dead, being by itself.
If we believe it’s God’s will to heal us and we have therefore begun to mend, then we must act on His Word. We must do what healed people do and most importantly we must say what we have, not what we had! Faith without a corresponding action is invalid, it will deliver nothing to you. Many times in our Bible we see Jesus saying to a lame man, arise and walk. The man was healed as he stood upon his feet, if he had never made an effort he would have never walked. If you have an infirmity and you want prayer but you don’t think you can act on your faith, you’re not ready to release the faith you have. Don’t give up, you just need some more faith, you just need more Word.
Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul.
We all love special miracles because they require little faith from us. If we wait for the day of special miracles we may have to spend many days with our infirmity. Special miracles are very rare, God’s best is for us to use our faith because without faith it is impossible to please Him. Why do we struggle to receive what Jesus died to give us?
2 Corinthians 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God.
If you have forgotten, let me remind you that we are at spiritual war. The devil hates God, therefore he hates you and he will do whatever he can to deprive us of God’s promises. The devil does not want you to be healed, he has worked his tail off to make you sick. He knows that if you receive your healing you will give God the glory and he is jealous for our attention. We are in warfare, we are soldiers and God has issued us specific weapons for specific warfare. He gave us His Name, His Word and His blood. His Name is above all names that every knee must bow to. He gave us His Word which is His will and He gave us His blood to wash away every sin, and make us His very own children. The devil is a spirit and our weapons are spirit, the devil has no armor to protect himself and he doesn’t have a prayer. So saints, when you’ve prayed and engaged your faith, arise and be made whole. Live like the healed person you are. Amen.
All believers have a choice as to where they will abide in life. We can live in God’s will or we can live outside of His will. Believers who step out of God’s will temporarily or permanently will lack confidence! The Christians who are committed to being in His will are always full of confidence.
Proverbs 3:26 The Lord will be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.
When folks are committed to their Lord, God will protect them from the traps of the devil. When a believer steps out of God’s will for their lives, they begin to question whether God will help them or not. We must never take God for granted, we cannot assume He will help us even when we don’t acknowledge His lordship. We must always keep in mind one thing, God is not our servant, we are His if we choose to be. We honor our Lord with praise, worship and thanksgiving and then we put Him on the throne of our heart.
Ephesians 3:12 In Jesus we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him.
If you’re in Christ, you’re in His will and you can be confident that He hears your prayers and abides with you. Some Christians have no confidence in God helping them and they don’t know how to change what they believe. They struggle with their weakness because they have neglected to seek out God’s will for their lives. Oftentimes our problems are not the source of our issues, usually there is a hidden base problem we never consider. When I council people I just listen to them and eventually they will unwillingly tell me what the answer is to their victory.
Philippians 1:6 Be confident of this very thing, He that has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
When you asked Jesus to be your Savior, He agreed. He came into your life and began to apply His grace to your old demonic nature. God is Committed to improving your life and He won’t stop until you are with Him in Heaven. God cannot help you, He cannot reach you if you don’t abide in His will. All born-again Christians have the promise of eternal life but we must live out our life in the flesh first. There is more to being born-again than waiting to die and go to Heaven. We all live in an evil, fallen world and the only way to escape the wiles of the devil is to live in the perfect will of God.
Hebrews 6:18-19 It is impossible for God to lie, so He set a hope before us. This hope is an anchor of our soul, both sure and steadfast.
When we step out of God’s will, our hope of all His promises begin to fade away. When we abide in His will we anchor our soul and our hope to His faithfulness. Every man needs a measure of hope. When a man has no hope then the thought of suicide will hound him until he gets help or succumbs to it. Having a good day or a bad day is a choice and we get to choose every day which one we will have. If your hope is in the Lord you will have confidence and you will believe for a good day no matter what comes your way. We have peace with God. Peace is not the absence of problems, it’s the presence of God.
A lot of people are under the impression that when they stand before God, He will decide where they will spend eternity. This may come as a shock to you but God does not choose who goes to Heaven or hell!
Deuteronomy 30:19 I am now giving you the choice between life and death, between God’s blessing and the curse, and I call Heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Choose life.
So Heaven knows who belongs there and the earth, where the devil resides, knows who belongs here. God gives every man the option and He honors every man’s choice. Please keep in mind there is no middle ground, it’s Heaven or hell. What if a man does not choose one or the other?
John 5:29 And the dead will come forth, they that have done good unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Our life in the flesh is very short compared to eternity and yet many make this life to be their only priority. Men are committed to store up wealth for their eventual retirement, but they never consider where they will retire to in eternity. There is an old cliché that many love to quote: You live like there is no tomorrow. But there is a tomorrow and it may well be the longest day of your life. When a man works hard all his life and he puts money back so he will reward himself for his retirement, he is wise to do so. How many years or days will he spend in retirement? Will he have enough reward for himself?
2 John 1:8 Be on your guard so that you do not lose all that you have diligently worked for, but receive a full reward.
Heaven can be viewed as the ultimate retirement home and there are rewards there for some and there is status. I don’t know exactly what those rewards are but they are from God so they are out of this world. I do know that intercessors, soul winners, and the very obedient will be rewarded for all to see. One great thing about Heaven, there are no saints that face discrimination, you are a child of God and a joint heir with Jesus.
Mathew 5:19 Whosoever breaks a commandment and teaches others to same will be called the least in Heaven. But whosoever keeps them and teaches them will be called great in Heaven.
God is very intolerant when it comes to men violating His Word. Why is that? Because man does not live by bread alone but by every Word of God. Some men will be judged differently than others. The man who never had the opportunity to hear the Word will be judged separately from the man who chose not to hear. God will judge the world in righteousness, in other words He will judge everyone according to His Word. How God judges men is really none of my business, how He will judge me is my concern. If folks will listen to us, we can lead them to the favorable judgement. If they refuse to hear, judgement day will be the beginning of the worst day of their eternity. When a believer chooses life, they look forward to the day of their reckoning, the day when their Heavenly Father judges them worthy of Heaven.
Veterans are a unique group of people, they seem to be emerged in secrecy. They were joined to a branch of the armed forces but they are reluctant to talk about their activities. Well, some things are best left alone. If certain memories are revisited they may have to be honored and this can easily be done without knowledge of what they did to earn such honor. Veterans need to know that their time in service is appreciated, that’s all they need. Some vets don’t want any recognition, they buried all the bad experiences long ago and they don’t want them dug up.
When the vets of Vietnam came home they were not treated like the heroes they were, people spit on them in the airports. The kids they went to school with rejected them and labeled them as baby killers. Vietnam vets hid their uniforms deep in their closets and just tried to blend in. When the Iraqi and Afghanistan soldiers came home they were honored by America. The Vietnam vets wept with joy to see their brothers get the honor they deserved.
Psalm 18:32-34 It is God that girds me with strength. He makes my feet like a deer, and sets me upon high places. He teaches my hands to war so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms.
Men hate war and God hates war but most times we have no choice. We had to help Europe in World War I and we had to war with Japan in World War II. God was on our side, He raised up an intercessor by the name of Reese Howell and he prayed defeat on our enemies. Every war has one bad guy, the general of chaos and his name is devil. The devil loves to pit man against man and for no good reason, he is bloodshed’s greatest fan.
1 Corinthians 2:8 None of the devils of this world knew, for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
The devils believed that if they could kill the Son of God, they would control the world forever. But they miscalculated, Jesus had never sinned and so His Father sent the Holy Spirit into hell to raise Him up. Now God has raised up an army and gave them a weapon the devil has no defense against. He gave us the Name of Jesus. The devil has no armor and he must fight upon his knees. It is not a fair fight, there is nothing fair about it, thank God. As veterans we can freely talk about the battles we had with the devil because they are all victories.
All veterans must be honored on account of their sacrifice. There are places in the world that are free of oppression and armies who want what they don’t deserve. When a nation honors its’ veterans it creates unity. When a man or woman goes off to war they leave their family behind. The families of vets are to be commended for their unwavering support. You don’t know what it means to a soldier out in the field to get a letter from home. When you get a letter from home it dispels loneliness. It need not be well written, it feels good to know you’re not forgotten.
Home of the free because of the brave.
If you received revelation from the Holy Ghost, I commend you. Did you know the devil never gives up trying to take your revelations from you? If he can get you to question the validity of your revelations, then he will continue to push until he wins or until you put him out.
Hebrews 2:1 We ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip or run out as a leaking vessel.
All of us throughout our lives have been given precious, tangible gifts or rewards. These things are special to us so we keep them in a special, safe place in order to protect them. They are but dung compared to the Word of God. We ought to regard His Word as our most sacred treasure. The devil is not the only way we can forfeit our life source revelations. If we neglect the Word, it will fade from our heart into obscurity and it will affect our confidence. The Word of God is alive and sharper than a two-edged sword, so it requires attention. We cannot hear the Word, understand it and then put it away in storage. How do we keep the Word alive and active? By using it every day of our lives; that’s why Jesus gave it to us. It would appear that there are two things that are actively trying to compromise your faith, the devil and neglect.
1 Peter 1:7 The trial of your faith is more precious than gold, though it be tested by fire, might be found unto praise and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.
Every scheme of the devil is directed at your faith. If we spring a leak through neglect, the devil can just sit by and watch us self destruct. Whether it be the devil or our own choosing, we are still responsible for it all. We must at all times keep one thing in the forefront of our thinking: faith pleases God. If you are a born-again Christian, it’s your nature to want to please your Heavenly Father. When I was growing up, I learned through trial and error what it took to please my earthly father. If I wanted to please him I knew what I needed to do and I did it when I wanted something. Now I know what I must do to please my Heavenly Father and I do it because of the life He gave me.
Galatians 3:1 O you foolish Christians, who has bewitched you, that you stopped believing in Jesus for your eternal life.
The Christians at Galatia forsook the Word of faith concerning Christ and embraced the teachers of the law. Religion has created more leaky vessels than the devil, but then religion is the doctrine of devils. Every man is responsible for his own vessel.
You cannot stop birds from flying over your head but you can stop them from building a nest in it.
There are people who are dedicated to stopping you from believing what you believe and want you to begin to believe what they believe. When some folks think they are in error, they find comfort in belonging to a large group of other people who think the same way. Going to hell with a large number of likeminded people will provide no comfort. Life is so serious that the truth is all that matters, it is the source of freedom for all men. Why would any man not prioritize the truth? They live under the veil of deception and they accept it. When you know the truth, hold fast to it. The devil and his deceived are out to take the truth away from the weak. We are not ignorant of his devices, he has no good reason to succeed.
I want to make a confession, I don’t know what revival is! Revival is a wonderful word that is tossed around in the body of Christ almost daily. I hear folks tell me they go to different churches and preach revival. Recently in a prayer meeting I told the Lord that I don’t know what a revival is. The Lord quickly responded.
You will not be able to explain it, until you see it, because it is beyond what you can ask or think.
Having heard the Lord say this, I’m looking forward to a true revival. Now I know you can’t revive something that was not at one time alive. So revival is for Christians that have forsaken the fire they received at the new birth. I truly believe that when the Christian comes back to life they will have a profound affect on the sinners. This one thing I do know, we cannot have revival apart from the presence of God!
Acts 3:19 Repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of revival shall come from the presence of the Lord.
When God’s people stray away from Him they disqualify themselves from His blessings but not His love. God never stops loving people no matter how naughty they become, but He is limited in what He can do for them. When I became rebellious against my parents they took some of my privileges away from me. I became angry with them for what I did, the only one who rewards bad behavior is the devil.
Acts 3:21 Heaven will not send Jesus back for us until the restoration of all the things the prophets said God would give us.
Supernatural restoration of all things is a part of a true revival. We have not seen the healing ministry or its fullness yet, nor have we seen the wealth that is laid up by the sinner for the just. More importantly we have not experienced the manifest presence of God that is so intense it transforms lives. I have not seen a revival and I don’t know what it looks like but I know God will manifest Himself and leave no doubt of His presence.
Psalm 16:11 In Your presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures evermore.
A true revival will put us in the presence of the Lord, and His presence will cause a fullness of His joy. I don’t think we have known the fullness of His joy, just a little here and a little there. I believe His joy is many times greater than any drug an addict would use to reach nirvana, the world’s idea of joy is artificial and illegal, it does more harm than good. Our world currently is in great chaos and rebellion, it will not affect a believer who abides in the presence of our Lord. The world is sinking deeper and deeper into spiritual death, but the church in revival is becoming more and more alive. The Prophet Isaiah said the light of the Lord would rise up on us and the people in darkness would see it. Brethren hold fast to your connection with Christ, true revival is on its way and God will start in His house.
Men have taught me the Word of God so, I sow into their ministry.
I am grateful to them,
I pray they help many others.
I put my trust in God,
He is faithful and just.
I will reap what I sow,
I will sow to the Spirit.
You will declare a thing, and it will be established for you
